Did this repair today on my 01' Civic LX. I was having the classic symptoms with loss of power on the highway, limiting power to 40-50 mph. The code at the dealership was 1361 TDC Sensor 1 as well. The dealership wanted around $200 to do the repair. I purchased the sensor for $65 from the dealership. My Gasket is only a week old so I didn't put in a new one but did use high temp silicone sealant to ensure a good bond after value cover was put back on. Took me about two hours. I did not have to remove the entire air filter intake to make room as the video suggested. Prior to this I have only done an oil change and tune up on this car on my own, if I can do this repair, anyone with a ratchet set can. Good video.

That's a good tip about knowing where to pry the valve cover off, if needed. I might have tried to get away with not using silicone on the engine side, but if I was wrong of course I would be doing the job again. It's been a while since your last automotive video and it's great to see your work again.

Thank you so much for this video. I have a Honda civi 2002 and few weeks ago, check engine light is on. I took the car to Autozone & Advance Auto to check the code. Both places gave me P1361, P1457 & P0118 codes. My car has been stalling speed sometimes like I couldn't faster than 15-20 miles/hour. I read bunch of reviews about how TDS sensor causing the car to stall. Now after watching the video, I have replaced the TDS sensor and the P1361 is gone. Thank you so much for this post.

Thanks @Spelunkerd. I usually don't use silicon, but those select areas on this block have issues with leaking, so silicone just helps to initally mate the surfaces together, that's why I only used a "very tiny" amount. Also, when taking into account the cylinder head is slightly angled forward, it just seemed smarter to use a bit of silicone. Hope you enjoyed the video, and once again thanks for all your positive comments.

First thing on a p1361 us park on a level surface .... turn off car... top off oil.... wait 5-10 minutes turn key on start car and drive.... the oil pressure being low can leave vtech open causing super lean leading o2 to read lean causing computer to think timing and TDC is wrong...... just add oil... old cars burn oil... not a problem...

My 01 Civic recently (as of today) started to lose complete power when I was on the highway (about 70mph). I pulled into the shoulder and it stalled and I coasted to a complete stop. Engine would crank, but would not start (about 5x) when it did start it ran VERY rough and I couldn't pass like 2500RPMs. like 10-15mph. I got it to a trans shop cause I thought I was having an issue with the trans rebuild I had done 6 months ago. only had an EGR code. After sitting for like 15mins I was able to drive normally again. However, after warming the car up again, like another 25-30miles on the highway the issue showed up again. Same thing, drove it down hill and got it up to like 30mph trans was shifting but NO POWER at all, when I tried to go uphill I was lucky to get 10mph. Car started overheating so I have up trying to floor it to get it home. Sat 20 mins and drove home just fine. Could this be the TDC Sensor? I really dont know what is causing this major lack of power. I just recently replaced the radiator, double checked all fluids are full.

I have a question regarding getting the timing cover off. Some people say you don't have to remove the valve cover completely, you just need to lift it enough to get the timing cover to clear the lip. If you're willing to break the timing cover for the sake of getting it off, would a new one slide up and into the valve cover, or does it absolutely need to be moved to do so? I found the upper timing cover on amazon for $14. I was wondering, would it theoretically be possibly to dremel a hole/window, for lack of a better term, into the new cover that would provide access to the TDC sensor mounting screw, then slide it up under the lip of the valve cover, or does the valve cover still need to be raised to allow clearance? What made me think of it was a ford ranger I had where there was a method to access the heater box by dremeling a hole, which allowed access, when otherwise you had to take half the dash apart.

Do i have to remove the valve cover to replace the cam position sensor?
@richiekenneth33979 жыл бұрын
*****Yes, the video doesn't explain it but the valve cover overlaps the timing cover making it impossible to remove it without breaking it. It was very easy to do so. Just make sure you have the time and patience to do the repair and watch the video step by step as you go along. I would recommend high temp sealant from the local parts store ($7) to reseal gasket. The dealership charges $14 for their sealant. The sensor runs for about $65, the gasket is about $15.
