Thanks for the video. Very helpful. But something I would caution you on: when you were sitting on the strut spring at 17:30 to try to compress it further so you could put the cap and thread the bolt on, that was actually super dangerous. If you had compressed it just a little too much, those compression clamps may have popped loose due to the slack and slipped off, explosively expanding that spring and cracking your pelvis. Be careful out there.

Thanks for the torque specs. For anyone else looking for them; Top 3 bolts 35ft lbs(14mm @strut tower) 2 Lower bolts 65ft lbs(17mm @ strut/knuckle) Happy wrenching.

So happy to see someone using actual torque specs. So many mechanics don't bother to look them up or use a torque wrench. Basic stuff, but so many just ignore it potentially causing problems.

Glad to see I am not the only one that had problems breaking nuts on a Hyundai.(2006 Tuscon) Did a simple front brake rotor change last year and one went smooth the other broke two sockets and a Snap-On ratchet lug.(talking about the large axle nut) So I put the wheel back on and went to my buddy's house that drives a Kenworth dump truck to use his "big" tools. He gets his 3/4" ratchet and I break the lug off of it. Then he gets out the artillery a 1 inch lug break over and we put a 6 ft long cheater pipe. Now I'm 6'2" 225lbs and I put all I had in it and when it finally gave I thought something major broke loose because of the sound it made. But all was good. My point is- What is about Hyundai? I have worked on many old cars/trucks and even big rigs and never seen nuts on this tight. Same thing happened when I did the brake calipers the first time on the Hyundai, broke a ratchet breaking the bolts loose. Great video but I don't have the tools you have(or patience) so I may need some help or just pay my buddy to change the struts. Yeah I'm a big wuss. Cheers and thanks for sharing this video and thanks for making me realize I don't want to tackle this chore.

+NorsemanUSA I find Hyundais to be in the same category with Hondas and Toyotas.. reliable as hell, but if you live anywhere that uses salt on the roads in winter, anything under the car will be rusted solid after 5 years unless you spray it all down regularly with penetrating fluid.

hi +fupabox. Could you tell me what Brand of struts you used? Have they worked well since installing them a few years ago? Thank you!!

Are the lower bolts on a Hyundai splined? I replaced front struts on a Bonnevile and I found out after breaking a socket that the top bolt was splined (I had stripped them). So I tried hammering out the lower one and it popped right out. Are there threads all the way across the Hyundai's lower strut bolts?

+Chad churches I am sorry to say I don't recall whether they were splined or not

I have a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe that's in the dealers as I type having the front recoil spring recall taken care of. I am a little mad that they've told me they've only sprayed them on a 14 year old vehicle instead of replacing them. Am I justified. Thanks!

*****. Thanks so much for your reply. "Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the coil spring, free of charge." The wording does allow them just to lubricate them, my concern is based on other owners who had them lubricated only for the cat to collapse on the front wheels incurring thousands in repairs. I think I'll speak ever so nicely with the dealership and offer my concerns. Really appreciate your response. I just want my car to be an investment and not a black hole of a money pit.

I really love my car and want it to perform the best it can and last for as long as possible, so I much rather not cut corners. :-)

Monkey it may also depend on what area you live in... if there is a lot of road salt in the winter, as there is here in Ontario, ....Then the dealer would have to replace the springs..if you live in Texas..prob. not. Ask the dealer to measure the thickness of the springs and to give you a letter stating they are safe (with the thickness noted on the letter) . If they are trying to get away with something, they won't want to put that on paper

+fupabox I live in Missouri a heavily salted area. I am going to do what you suggested when I go there later today. I'll let you know how I get on. Big Thanks!

+fupabox I just spoke with the guy and he said he's more than happy to state those terms in writing. I feel better about that now. I guess my job is going to be to get them lubricated once every 6 months, which is what is recommended. Aprreciate your time and input. I'm a new driver out here in the States, originally from London U.K, so I'm learning my way around a lot of stuff. Thanks once again.
