Loosen both top and bottom nuts before pulling out this will prevent the bottom one from ''bouncing'' as you undo it.

Pry down on the sway bar after releasing the top and you can reach it with a 1/2” impact.

Use an impact wrench for removal. They’ll spin right off every time. Then use a ratchet to reinstall and torque to spec (which isn’t much).

88lbs wow, those joints seem well loose, trouble with those type of joints spinning up is if you want to take the joint off to replace something else, you`re in trouble, we call the hex wrench Allen keys, i do like the go through`s. Excellent vid as always.

Yes they certainly don't want those nuts to come off. In Canada they call them Allen keys in the USA it's not used as much. Interestingly enough the Allen name is a registered trademark, originated by the Allen Manufacturing Company of Hartford, Connecticut circa 1910 and they don't like the name applied to products that are not made by them. Which goes against most companies marketing philosophy. For example Kleenex like that it's name is now synonymous "facial tissue paper". The go through's saved a lot of time and work on this job and I am sure they will come in handy elsewhere. Thanks again for watching and commenting. All the best.

It appears that the old bolts had flats, so it might be possible to use a thin open end wrench to keep them from spinning, rather than the vice grips. Great video though. Thanks for sharing!

I replaced links on my 07 Sante Fe a few days ago, and indeed a 17mm wrench held the ball end while the nut was removed. The old boots were torn so I was not worried about causing damage to them. The replacement links I bought from O'Reilly's (MasterPro Chassis - 20.99 each side [SoCal] ) did not have the hex key in the end, but also had the 17mm flats. I did not have a thin 17mm wrench, but used a standard and feel it was adequate to hold the ball while tightening the 19mm nut without damaging the new boot. I did not have a pass through ratchet, so this actually worked well for me when torqueing the nut. Thanks again for your video, it was the reason I tackled the job and restored my car's performance.

Yep. 17mm flats for open end wrench. I changed them on wife's sonata.

Those don’t require much torque as it bottoms out against the strut mount. Also, since you’re using a lock nut, then there is no real chance that the nut will back off.

Hi, I'm wondering if you know the length of the drop links? I have a 2005 cdx 4wd but the sway bar is so close to the chassis it's hitting it. Maybe worn bushings, but it's so close, like, mm's where the bend is coming down to meet the drop link. It's got me thinking the drop links are too short. 264mm at thread centres. Any ideas? Thanks

Actually, looking at your vid here, your sway bar at the drop link end is almost sitting on top of the support arm. Mine is way up in the air! like pointing upwards. I defo think the drop link is too short. Looks to be 295 overall. Even my parts supplier said this was the correct size, but i beg to differ.

Hey do you have a video on how to remove the sway the easiest way? Not the sway bar links the actual sway bar? I removed it from a junkyard today but it was freaking hell and most of the car was stripped making it much easier. Also whats the name of the background song?

After replacing the transmission on a Santa Fe 4WD I would suggest that you would remove the subframe under the engine to get at the sway bar and bushings. If you want to try it you could loosen the front bolts on the sub frame loosen the rear ones too or even remove the rear bolts and let the subframe hang to give you the space to remove the bolts. Now if it's not a 4WD you will have much more wiggle room with this procedure. Understand the subframe is very heavy so be very careful when working with it. BE SAFE. Use jack stands and make sure you keep something under the subframe to keep it from falling on you. Safety first. Honestly, I can't remember the name of the background song. Good luck. @@richardlloydusa Its a 2004 hyundai sante fe 2 WD 2.4L. I already have a transmission installed. Nothing was removed. I removed the sway bar from a 2.7L 2006 hyundai sante fe. Shouldnt have any compatibility issues with it right? Also when I removed the sway bar, their was almost virtually no wingle room to remove the top bolts, not the bottom bolts, the top ones without lowering the subframe. I actually unsrew 4 of the subframe screws then 3 screws where the condensor and radiator are for subframe and it still didnt complete fall. So I had to use some type of bar to hold it down so I can actually unscrew it.

It's the same chassis from 2004 to 2006. It "should" be the same. It's a trick for sure getting at those bolts. Not exactly a friendly design. Make sure you replace the bushings with new ones while you're at it. You don't want to go back and do it again anytime soon. Good luck. Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate it greatly.
