Was this a Patron Request? If not, what's the occasion for this cool Stanley Kubrick Nod? Also, I noticed you have been playing your Exotic Mahogany with the Round Wound strings more lately than the Journeyman with the flat wounds you normally like to play. Either you are just changing things up because you can, or perhaps in the case of this song with the technique you are doing, it is easier or sound better or louder on the round wound strings even when amped up? Otherwise, great rendition, All you need is an image of a Chimpanzee playing with some bones with the moon rising in the background and the video ending with the voice of Hal9000 saying "I am sorry Steve, I am afraid I can't play that" LOL. Till the next live stream you do or video, you post(short or regular length), or when we can get together in person next, socially, or for a concert coming up. Cheers. 😀

This was just an idea I had. I wanted to make an arrangement instead of a beginner lesson since it had been awhile, and so I was looking for a Classical piece I hadn't done before. This was on a list of songs, and I figured it would work great since it is an epic intro, it might be a great "intro to 2023!" Other than that, it was just fun to arrange! As far as why I used the round wounds, lately I've just been enjoying it after not playing it for so long. This arrangement needed a little bit of grit for the strum-volume swells to be as effective, so I just thought this was the best choice. I'm hoping to make some more shorts and get back to my "every other week" video schedule for longer form. Hopefully we can go see a concert sometime, though it probably won't be on a Saturday anytime soon (weddings almost every week through June). Cheers!

Lots of great videos--thanks! Stephen, perhaps you've discussed this somewhere, but can you recommend a good practice amp to use with a Kala U-Bass? Mine has the standard black 'rubber' (Pahoehoe?...). When plug my U-bass into the 5 Watt practice amp that I use with my Fender Mustang bass it does not sound great, to my ears at least. The sound you get is always so good. Also, do you have any suggestions about pocket-sized headphone amps to use with the Kala?.I have the VOX headphone amp made for bass guitars, it's nothing special.

Hi Harold, I don't think I have a video on that topic, but a 5 watt practice amp won't give you much tone in the bass frequencies. I would recommend something with at least 25 Watts like the Fender Rumble 25. Those should be able to get a tone you will like. I have not experimented enough with headphone amps to really have a favorite. The VOX is one of the few I've heard anything about at all. Thanks for watching!

@@stephencoxbass Thanks for that reply. Most of the time I wear headphones when I practice at home (at this point I'm not playing outside of my apartment). If you're wearing headphones do you think it matters if the amp is 5W or 25W?...I figured with headphones the power wouldn't matter as much as the signal processing electronics in the amp, but I suppose equipment makers might put better signal processing electronics in amps with greater wattage. I'd like to be able to plug my UBass into something that lets me dial in a little reverb, I think that might give me a nice tone.
