Just did mine and i found that there is a metal valve in the way next to the back fire wall. I just removed the bolt below this and set it back an inch to get the valve cover off it is backward left is tighting right is losey german backwords. I hooe i got the valve on correctly if not i guess i have to do it over again. But in all in all now i kniw the best way to do this. Like the back thick little piece thats goes down behind the chain. And put that ultrablack on the bottom area like a triangle.

While the production quality is there... This is one terrible video as far as instruction goes. I'd be willing to bet you still have leaking valve covers after the atrocious job you did. Maybe do some more research while this job leaks and make another video when you know what you're doing. To anyone watching this to learn something... Don't.

David Stortini You are 100% right lol! This was the first job I ever did. I wound up paying a garage, but if you check out my other videos, you will see a lot has changed. Thanks!

From my experience, a valve cover gasket leak on these cars is due to excess crankcase pressure, which usually has something to do with the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system. It is a common issue with these.
@TheLifeTerm6 ай бұрын
Great job, but you should have used the opportunity to replace the chain tensioner gaskets. Very common leak area.
@theearthisntflatpleasestop98996 жыл бұрын
Ugh, so do you put the ultra black all the way around? And why are you only putting it on 4 corning on top? And do you put it on the center gasket? (Located around the plugs) I can't find the official way to do this...

the valve cover gaskets are not as common as the chain adjuster gasket. Most people who replace the vcg have a leak still. I hope your leak is gone but it most likely still leaks
@boostbook37477 жыл бұрын
Steven Shenkman you are 100% correct. Still leaked after the valve cover gasket change. I took it to a shop to get all the other gaskets done. (Expensive job)

It looks like thats where my leak is coming from. Ill be getting down in there Sunday..

pain in the ass leaks, I got my passenger side to stop leaking, but the drivers side has only slowed with new gaskets, this includes the half moon seals and the tensioner seal. I used high temp Permatex Copper RTV on the corners at the cam caps, installed the cam plugs caps dry as well the remaining valve cover seal. I've heard people are using a Mercedes sealant, and or Permatex part # 80017 under the actual cam caps, and the cam plugs to stop the leaks.

I thought my 3.0 was hard to work on but wow that looks pretty bad. Just to get the coils out would take a lot of stuffing around.
@boostbook37477 жыл бұрын
yanni6556 it definitely wasn't easy. like you said. the hardest part was just getting to the valve cover lol. Thanks for watching!

2006 audi a8 had a new water pump with timing belt put in the other day only to wake to more bad news of bad head gasket im extra pissed off because my mechanic should have told me the possibility of needing this . my question is . is it worth fixing ?
@boostbook37476 жыл бұрын
cowboyfan dallas if you love the car enough it's worth fixing. Only you can answer that question. From a business prospective.. possibly not. Get a quote for the fix and then look up what the car is worth. Then decide if it's worth it!
