As soon as you showed that it had 289,000 miles I instantly knew that the transmission was out on it. The 1999-2006 4l80e transmissions were rated for 280,000 miles and the engines were rated for anywhere between 330,000-360,000 miles. Most of those years of trucks that are for sale in my area have 360,000 miles and are still running. Those years of trucks will probably last the owners the rest of their life. I have no interest in ever upgrading mine.

The transmission went out. Some people back then didn't know how to change out a transmission even though you can just go to the junk yard and buy an engine for $800. Transmission $600. Transfer Case $400.

I noticed this truck has a transmission temperature gage. Also what is with two batteries? Usually is with a diesel engine being it requires two batteries unless it was used for towing a trailer. The single battery is on the left side of the truck.

My grandparents bought their 2000 3/4 ton new and it came with 2 batteries. It wasn't necessary, just a thing that GM was doing at the time since they didn't come with block heaters since they were fuel injection.

That’s a 2500 non HD I’ve got one too they are good trucks only difference in them is a 14 bolt 9.5 sf and over the rear axle it goes down from an 8” frame rail to a 6” or 6.5” idk which one but good trucks for sure

I love those things, but they’re getting hard to find now! Are used to sell GM cars and trucks. If I remember right those eight ones from the factory use about a quart oil every thousand miles and that’s considered normal. Great motors, though they are thirsty, they can pull the house down.

In our area it is so hard to find the 8.1L vortecs. The car dealerships said that when one comes in on trade in, that it never gets to the lot, because the technicians in the back buy the truck, before the salesman can list it.

Same here. My mom owns the half ton model with 92,000 miles and the 3/4 ton model with 94,000 miles and I have a 2003 3/4 ton with 203,000 miles. My buddy owns a bunch and even one of his 03 duramaxs has 400,000 miles. These trucks just keep going, but my buddy said the drive train will probably outlast the bodies.

I think it's always good to check your oil and check all your fluids before you even get started and trying to start something like that up especially after it's been setting for so long cuz it gives you more of an idea what could be wrong with it and what to really look forward to when you're going and getting into it

I bought a 95 Silverado 5.7 tbi, wouldn’t run, tank was empty so I put 5 gallons in it, replaced plugs and wires, cap and rotor, ignition coil, battery, EGR, etc a bunch of shit. Lesson learned when I pulled the gas tank and the gas was a rusty brown, the fuel pump filter was so black it had clogged up, if I would have replaced the tank and the pump first I probably could have avoided spending $400 on random parts. Just a heads up for anyone trying to get a old truck running

I think its a 99, atleast the 1500s I know for a fact unsure about the older "2500" non Hd models but its a 3 door, so its probably a 99, everything after 99 00-06 extended cabs were 4 door

it’s a 99 light duty 2500. the 3rd door was only 99. and it’s a non HD or light duty having the same front end as a gals ton. the frame isn’t as big as an HD 2500

That’s not how it works with a hung open injector. The pressure in the rail pushes fuel into the cylinder without a pulse.

If you look at the voltage meter you are only getting around 10 amps you need about 15 to get it cranking smooth
