I’m getting ready to replace mine for the second time in 9 months. Piece of crap parts out now. I’m lucky because I have a friend that’s a Cummins savant and steered me in the right direction. I’m getting decent at these and changing transmissions 😅

I get the 1 second signal with key on but do not get any pump run time after cranking starter. Brand new pump will run direct hook. The positive and negative however won’t run constantly when hooked to wiring harness after starter.

I agree with everything you said, however I unplugged the connector from the pump and connected my volt meter to the wire harness. I get 9 volts initially. Once I bump the starter I get 12 volts for 20 seconds or so. The 9 volts seems odd to me and it is very repeatable so I think it is normal, but not 100% sure? Why put 9V on a 12V pump?

So I did not use a voltmeter when I checked my voltage at the pump. I only use a test light my mistake I should have used the voltmeter to see if it's the same as your issue. did you get yours fixed?

Mine did the same. 8.9 volts. I didn’t test it after I tried starting it. Didn’t know to do that. How ever mine has always ran if you just turn the key on. And about 10 seconds even if you turn the key back off. I tested the pump with a jumper wire and it ran. So I assumed my computer died. I’ve been having trouble with the wait to start light working and I heard that was a symptom of a failing ecm. Sounded about rite. So I hard wired the fuel pump into the fuse box for now. someone cut into my wiring harnesses all over the truck. So I’m still pulling unused wires at the moment. I wish if folks that wire in all kinds of crap would leave it in the truck when they sold it. So you’d have an idea of what went where and why. One of the owners musta been an electrician to have known which wire to get power off of. I seen a video where a guy added a second inline fuel pump. With all the failing fuel pumps I see I think il do the same to mine. Of corse this might also be why there’s so many failing pumps. 😮

Oh and mine been low on fuel pressure leading up to this. Guessing since it’s been missing and bogging at higher demands and rpm’s.She runs strong again now. Gotta get a fuel pressure gauge installed as well.

I’m confused now …I have a 2000 ram 2500 with 5.9 Cummins, today I noticed my fuel pump in the gas tank wasn’t making any noise so I replaced it and still nothing …then I replaced my lift pump like the one you have in your hand and that makes a loud buzzing sound which is good, but now I’m not getting any fuel to the fuel filter bowl…so my question is so I run both fuel pumps at the same time doesn’t make sense ….

My lift pump is leaking at the bottom where there is 2 holes i get power at the connectors but i neen having a service engine light and get loss of power than it goes back to normal do you think it has to do with the lift pump

Yea a seal inside the pump has went out. Know idea if it can be serviced or not. It’s most likely just an O Ring if you can find it and replace it. I’ve never held on in my hand to see what they look like. Mine missed under load and the check engine light came on for the last month or so. It reads bad boost sensor. I havnt looked into that. Because I don’t think it even has such sensor anymore. But my fuel pump voltage was low and the pump wouldn’t run with the key on something it’s always done. Didn’t know to check it after hitting the starter. But like I said it’s always ran before. So I wired it into the fuse box for now. Lots of wiring to fix on mine. Might want a read up on that before doing what I did I just needed it to go at the moment.
