Back in 1999, I was in High School and was taking driver’s ed courses at school. Our cars that we used were 2000 Ford Focus’s painted in Light Sapphire Blue with gray cloth interiors. The were LX trims with automatic transmissions, but not much else in the way of equipment levels. So, it’s fitting that I find this nice 2001 Ford Focus and loved the opportunity to relive this car and digitally preserve it for years to come, which, incidentally, is the goal of this channel.
Slated to initially fill the gap between the outgoing Escort and the Taurus, the Focus represented an all-new world car from Ford. Available worldwide and produced at a number of global production facilities, the Focus truly was like the original Escort for the States in the 1980’s. Utilizing Ford’s “New Edge Design”, the Focus looked unlike anything else Ford had on the road. If you look back to this era, all other Ford vehicles were rounded and almost oblique. The Focus showed us sharp creases and edges, along with steep angles and upright body lines. Almost as if the GT90 concept car from 1995 inspired some of the shapes. Across the globe, the Focus was available in several trim levels, even including an ST and an RS model in Europe, and somehow I missed that! We had the SVT Focus here in the States, and of course, special edition models across the model years were highlights as well. Here, we had the basics: The base-level LX, mid-range SE, ZX3 hatchback, and the line-topping ZTS. Available engines for North America were either the Split-Port 2.0L 110 HP 4-cylinder, or the more zippy Zetec DOHC 16V 130 HP 4-cylinder engine. Transmission choices were either an optional 4-speed automatic ($815) with overdrive or the standard 5-speed manual transmission. ABS ($400) and AdvanceTrac full-speed traction control ($1,225) were both optional back then, as were side-impact airbags ($350). Our review subject has, well, none of those. It doesn’t even have power equipment group ($740)! It does, however, have the optional $795 Air Conditioning, which still works fantastic, so, there’s that at least! In any event, our low-mille, very nice surviving example was built at the Wayne Stamping and Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan in August of 2001.

Performance data, safety equipment and the like are usually not shown due to the already enormous amount of videos that cover the aforementioned topics.
We like to cover everything from classics to high-end and everything in between.
