Just bought an 01 CRV yesterday. Clock wasn’t working. Bought a soldering iron and solder for less than $10 from Walmart and redid the solders. Works perfectly. Thank you so much!

I wanted to add that after soldering the first time, the clock did not turn on. At my spouse's suggestion, I applied more heat to the newly soldered joints to spread the metal a bit more and that did the trick. Thanks again for sharing a really helpful instructional.

Thanks No Kidding, I really appreciate you sharing that information, sometimes it doesn't work on the first attempt, you need to make the contact with the solder.

Hi, Eddie My clock was not working for years (99 CR-V) then I saw your video, and followed your instructions and it worked great the first time. Now, 3 years later, it's out again. So I will try to fix it a second time. Thanks for making the video and saving me $300 for a new clock.

My sister's clock has been out for a few years on her 2001 CRV. Honda wanted $500 to replace it. I found one "rebuilt" on e-bay for 60 bucks and one at a local "Pick and Pull" for $16. But now that I've seen this video, and I have the tools, I'll be trying this fix tomorrow. Seems it's a common issue. Thank you for posting the video....9 years later. 🙂 Edit: This is the day after I watched this video. I saw one visible crack but I went ahead and reflowed each solder joint. It worked like a charm. Thank you.

I tried it yesterday after the clock not working for ten years. So after watching your video soldered two of the ones you showed on the left side and it worked. At first thought it didn't but next day after driving it started to work just needs a few minutes I guess to warm up the capacitors or what ever you call them. Thanks for the video,I'm a happy camper

Good fix...thanks Eddie...like everyone else, it's been bugging me for years. What I did was first the front two on the left side, same as the video, plugged it in and nothing...so, I took it out, had a look at the back of the blocks. The extreme left was looking cracked in the back, put some solder down and "viola" the thing lit up. Good job Eddie...

My clock has not worked for over 5 years. One of the circuits on my clock had broke off completely. Of course it was the most difficult one to solder on the far left side. I gave it my best shot. Plugged in and it did not work. One week later the clock lit up and kicked on at the exact time of day!! Truly a miracle.

Hi Edi, Thank you very much for the post, It's been very useful. In the clock of my 1999 Honda CRV clock I found I had to resolder the 3 resistors, with the added difficulty that the resitor in the middle fell apart when I dismounted the electronic board. The interior connection point of that resitor is located under the the clock display so in order to access to it, I had to unsolder the 4 support pins of the lower side of the clock display, bend it upwards and solder the resistor. Afterwards, I could fix back in place the 4 support pins of the clock display. This was a delicate work and I am not expert with soldering so I was pretty sure that the fix would not work. But when I put everything back in place and turned on the key of the car .... voila!! it worked. The clok is a small thing but it really changes one's mood when getting in such a veteran but loved car... Cheers!

Eddie, thanks for the fix. When I was doing what you show, the darned resistor fell off completely! Shows that it was definitely not connected. I had to desolder the two lower standoffs of the display and tilt it up to get to the other side of the resistors. Resoldered the 3 resistors. Put the standoffs back in place. Resoldered them. Works great! Your awesome!

As to the junkyard comment: while valid, I believe most of the first generation CR-Vs (1997-2001) have experienced the same problem, as the clock panel faces all these years of sunlight and heat exposure. Their clocks have died. With you helpful tutorial, most can be resurrected. BTW, mine has logged close to 400,000 miles.

I recall Honda wants about $200 for these. I have done this in a 1998 and 1999 Honda CRV that I owned. Neither took a very long time to do and was not very difficult. Of course, the first time was more time and more adventurous as I lost a clip. Honda likes them too! So take care as you snap them loose. I bought some yellow trim tools from Harbor Freight that I used the second time and that I have used for several other repairs. Well worth the $$$ if you are do-it-yourselfer. I also took out the board and resoldered the third chip first time and connections on back side. I saw on a forum somewhere that clock failure is extremely common in the 1st gen CRVs and improper solder was typical cause.

thank you. I've had this car for a few years and the clock never worked. I just zoomed in with my camera and VOILA there it was a split on the solder. thank you very much. excelente video

You nailed it Eddie, great work. As soon as I saw the hot spot on the lower left corner of the glass I suspected the component underneath. I see that yours has the same hot spot - we should report this manufacturing defect to Honda immediately! :)

this is a youtube video that one can use. Clock on my 2000 CRV stopped working 2 years ago. I removed it and really couldn't see any solder join that's cracked or worn so I added solder to every join. Put it back and it works. Thanks a lot.

Hello Eddie, I did get my hands on the clock and checked those solder connections. There are solder joints on both sides so I can only assume a bad connection could be on either side. I touched the 3 areas you mentioned with some fresh solder and am waiting for a family member to reinstall the clock in thier CRV to hear the results. I have my fingers crossed! I will post the results as soon as I get word.

Thanks so much! I had the same issue here and I cracked it open and, sure enough, the left two connections were slightly separated. I soldered it all anyways just because and it works now. One thing to be a little careful of is there are metal clips on those tabs when first prying the vent cover off with a straight slot screwdriver. I lost a couple of them as they fell inside.

Thanks for tip, however, after I've re-soldered these contacts (I even lifted up clock screen, desoldering its 2 contacts) and re-soldered the elements you've shown on both sides and clock started up, BUT not for long. it's on and off. I re-soldered connector contacts, but still the same picture: some loose contact playing prank with me.

Thanks for the video, my clock hadn't worked for a couple years but now it does! I didn't trust my soldering skills on something so small, so I used some "wire glue" (applied with a toothpick) instead. If it fails while I still own the car I will solder it.

Eddie Carrara Hey I'm glad you hear that. I actually just got one myself of ebay direct from China haha 😂 I've got a question for you. I've got a97 CR-V that my father gave me years ago. It has been great and I've nearly rebuilt it. So I decided it would be nice to have the oem clock so I found an purchased one off eBay. So after installing it in the dash I was bummed to learn that if the vehicle did not come with a clock originally it will not have the wire harness. So I've been on an ongoing mission to either find one or make one. I was wondering if you might have any suggestions or ideas that might steer me in the right direction. I just sent an email to a car electronics parts website I just found but out side of that I've not had much luck. Thanks if you have any thoughts and if not I understand.
@EddieCarrara1
@EddieCarrara1 6 жыл бұрын
Hi John, You could try installing it with a man made harness or you could check a salvage yard, sometimes half the dash is ripped out and you could find at least the connector and some of the wires, if you need a schematic I may be able to help with that.
