I wanted to add that after soldering the first time, the clock did not turn on. At my spouse's suggestion, I applied more heat to the newly soldered joints to spread the metal a bit more and that did the trick. Thanks again for sharing a really helpful instructional.

Thanks No Kidding, I really appreciate you sharing that information, sometimes it doesn't work on the first attempt, you need to make the contact with the solder.

My sister's clock has been out for a few years on her 2001 CRV. Honda wanted $500 to replace it. I found one "rebuilt" on e-bay for 60 bucks and one at a local "Pick and Pull" for $16. But now that I've seen this video, and I have the tools, I'll be trying this fix tomorrow. Seems it's a common issue. Thank you for posting the video....9 years later. 🙂 Edit: This is the day after I watched this video. I saw one visible crack but I went ahead and reflowed each solder joint. It worked like a charm. Thank you.

My clock has not worked for over 5 years. One of the circuits on my clock had broke off completely. Of course it was the most difficult one to solder on the far left side. I gave it my best shot. Plugged in and it did not work. One week later the clock lit up and kicked on at the exact time of day!! Truly a miracle.

Hi Edi, Thank you very much for the post, It's been very useful. In the clock of my 1999 Honda CRV clock I found I had to resolder the 3 resistors, with the added difficulty that the resitor in the middle fell apart when I dismounted the electronic board. The interior connection point of that resitor is located under the the clock display so in order to access to it, I had to unsolder the 4 support pins of the lower side of the clock display, bend it upwards and solder the resistor. Afterwards, I could fix back in place the 4 support pins of the clock display. This was a delicate work and I am not expert with soldering so I was pretty sure that the fix would not work. But when I put everything back in place and turned on the key of the car .... voila!! it worked. The clok is a small thing but it really changes one's mood when getting in such a veteran but loved car... Cheers!

As to the junkyard comment: while valid, I believe most of the first generation CR-Vs (1997-2001) have experienced the same problem, as the clock panel faces all these years of sunlight and heat exposure. Their clocks have died. With you helpful tutorial, most can be resurrected. BTW, mine has logged close to 400,000 miles.

Thanks, Eddie. A buddy of mine soldered a couple. I just need to replace it, now. The one we replaced it with works when it wants to, or you press on the face of the clock. Im gonna swap it back out for the original that's been soldered now.

Thanks so much! I had the same issue here and I cracked it open and, sure enough, the left two connections were slightly separated. I soldered it all anyways just because and it works now. One thing to be a little careful of is there are metal clips on those tabs when first prying the vent cover off with a straight slot screwdriver. I lost a couple of them as they fell inside.

Thanks for the Video, watched it and was able to resolder a crack joint. Clock works great! Cheers!

Thanks for the video, my clock hadn't worked for a couple years but now it does! I didn't trust my soldering skills on something so small, so I used some "wire glue" (applied with a toothpick) instead. If it fails while I still own the car I will solder it.

Great video..I had the same problem with my crv clock.Like yours there were two cracked joints but i also had a joint under the led display which i had to remove to get to.... clock works great now.

Hi, my clock hasn't worked in years.....however, I purchased wire glue which is electrically conductive. Would that work? I don't have a sodering iron or wire.
@EddieCarrara14 жыл бұрын
Hi Babszolla, I'm not sure if that glue will work but at this point, you don't have much to lose, lol. Give it a try and see what happens, if it doesn't work you can pick up a cheap soldering iron on Amazon for under $20 amzn.to/3efTIHG Let me know how you make out, thanks.

I recall Honda wants about $200 for these. I have done this in a 1998 and 1999 Honda CRV that I owned. Neither took a very long time to do and was not very difficult. Of course, the first time was more time and more adventurous as I lost a clip. Honda likes them too! So take care as you snap them loose. I bought some yellow trim tools from Harbor Freight that I used the second time and that I have used for several other repairs. Well worth the $$$ if you are do-it-yourselfer. I also took out the board and resoldered the third chip first time and connections on back side. I saw on a forum somewhere that clock failure is extremely common in the 1st gen CRVs and improper solder was typical cause.

I have a 97 CR-V that originally did not have a clock. I bought one on Ebay but need the harness (pigtail). For the last three years I have searched the internet but can never find one. Any suggestions are much appreciated. I can pay $$$

Hi John, What I recommend is you call a salvage yard and see if they can locate one for you, I think that is your best option. Let me know if you find one, good luck :)
