I forget to ask where do you the fluid at! the dipstick?

Why does nobody post how much fluid these take 😂

Hey bud just bought an XJR and thinking about doing the trans fluid just to be safe. Wondering if you could tell us the final amount of fluid you ended up using.

Honestly can't remember, buying a few gallons should be safe. But keep in mind that draining the pan doesn't get all the fluid out, so after you do the fluid and filter change it's not a bad idea to then do another pan drain and refill after a bit to get more of the old fluid out.

Can anyone tell me the part number for the transmission pan? I've run into a lot of confusion.

Thank Ted, I have the same XKR car and I took it few year to change the transmission fluid at a transmission shop, he said no need to, it is sealed for life as you said. I do not have a lift so hard for me to do but at least I may be able to check the level. not sure where else to take it I am going to buy a dipstick for MB or Chrysler. My car run well has 43k but always hesitate when you push full the accelerator and then after few seconds take off someone told me it may be the transmission. any idea or suggestion, I do hardly drive it Thanks for a great video and putting the myth to rest

Hi Roger, glad you found this video useful. Under the hood (bonnet) you should find a dipstick tube for the transmission. There is no dipstick on it and there is a cap you'll need to remove to access the dipstick tube. The dipstick I bought is a generic Mercedes/Chrysler "dipstick tool" that does not have specific markings for full and low as the same dipstick is used for all cars with this transmission, and that fill point is different for the different cars. I forget the exact point that's considered full on the XKR. If I didn't have it in the video, you can find it by searching the forums. I believe in the video I showed where the dipstick tube is on this car.

Hello Ted, I have a 2003 Super V8 that I want to change the fluid and filter on. I'm fairly certain it hasn't been changed. I purchased it with 144,000 miles. How has your jag held up with the Valvoline Maxlife? I hope to see a response. Thank you.

@@TedsGarage, Thanks for your prompt reply. I have all the necessary components sourced, including a dip stick. Great video BTW!! You gave me the inspiration to tackle the job.

@@TedsGarage Hi Ted, do you recall the number on your dipstick fill level when you determined the level was correct? Thank you.

Is that the 722.6 transmission from Mercedes?
@TedsGarage3 жыл бұрын
I believe that is the correct designation. It is a Mercedes transmission.

The Story behind the 5g 5 speed transmission and reason it's fitted to the very high performance european models of Mercedes and S/C jaguar, over far superior 7g 7 speed transmission of Merc and 6 speed zf is the 5g is designed to handle 700 ft pounds of torque, which 7g design and zf was just over half of that torque rating Bmw M cars always had to have manuls as a result, with the exceptionof the fake NorthAmerica only e36 low poweed M3 which had an auto option. As far as I am aware the 5g was always a serviceable transmission in Mercedes cars. The ZF sealed for life transmissions back in the day, mainly failed of valve body failure, due to agent in the long life synthetic oil ZF developed used to damage solder joints on valve bodies I was told a number of years ago when they first started failing over 100k miles by a transmission specialist that's all that was wrong with them, and ZF was aware of the problem early on . But them and the manufacturers new 99% failed well outside of warranty.

So what would you say about an xjr (mine is 98 xjr) that wont shift out of 1st after re-attaching shift cable to trans housing ? And I likely overfilled with lucas stop slip in a desperation move before i discovered cable came off. (I know- stupid to try additives ;)

@@TedsGarage Thank you for the info. I thought that might be the case. So now I'm trying to source an OBD2 reader that would talk to a Jag to reset a Mercedes transmission. Anybody know of one that work for this?
