Bro I’ve been looking all over for the past 2 days & I bought the brake pedal stop pad and whole time I’ve been putting it on the cruise control brake and wondering why my brake light wouldn’t turn off until I found out about the other brake thanks to this vid! Much appreciated family!

was trying to turn off by removing a fuse to save battery..then found this excellent video ...my mechanic said he could jury rig some kingda bolt but i went and paid the 17.00 for the genuine nissan part vsTHE rainforest's 10 for 10 bucks..--they looked different . and would take 2 days ...nah.....SO ..it worked ...i have a bad back so i got my shade tree guy to do it for 60.00......he was oissed, because it was hard even fo him- a 30 yerar experienced mechanic and it took longer than what he expected -- ..this was on a 2000 Maxima ...but all good now ... thanks for the excellent explanation and guidance ! and great camera work !!..

Thank You, a helpful video. I wanted pass along that when replacing the rubber stoppers rather than the switch (e.g. brake lights stuck ON), that the rubber stopper (called a gasket in this video) has very small clearances. In order to replace the rubber stoppers, it is necessary to remove both switches (as shown in this video), and then the stopper will just barely fit between the stopper's mount flange, and the switch(es) mount tube(s). Finally, many after-market stoppers have just slightly larger mushroom prong inserts. This makes the stoppers very difficult to insert into their mount holes,, particularly because of the narrow gap between switch mount tube, and the stopper mount flange. The best technique I have found is to GREASE the mushroom rubber prong, position it into the gap (above the hole), and then use a putty knife (or kitchen table knife) to push the rubber stoppers into place. Considerable force is required, and the grease is needed to get the mushroom through the hole. After-market parts are often sold as "Genuine Nissan", but frequently are not, and they sometimes have a mushroom that is 1-2mm larger in diameter than the true Genuine Nissan part, making them substantially harder to install. So, the key is remove the switches, GREASE up the stoppers (and hole), and use a putty or kitchen knife to press them into place. They reinstall the switches. I recommend having an assistant help with the brake light switch, so that you can test to make sure the switch closes when the brake pedal is just barely pressed, but opens when its released, by watching the taillight while you are under the dash messing with the switch. The cruise control switch placement may require a few times removing,/ reinstalling, and adjusting the depth that you insert the switch into the switch mount tube before turning it to lock it in. You then test drive, test out the cruise control ARM, and then SET a speed. The "SET" light will light on the dash, and the cruise will maintain the speed. If the cruise brake switch is not adjusted, then the switch will be closed all the time, and the cruise will immediately cancel, and it will not let you "SET a cruise speed". e.g. you can get the "CRUISE" light (e.g. ON), but you cannot get the CRUISE SET light on, because the brake cruise switch keeps canceling. If so, remove the switch, reinsert to a lesser penetration, and lock it in again, and test again. When it seem correct, then set the cruise, and then with the cruise active, make sure the brake when lightly tapped will successfully "CANCEL the CRUISE". If so, all done. If not, then you need to unlock the switch, and increase the penetration and re-lock it into place. Repeat until successful for both ARM (SET), and CANCEL (brake touch). When the brake "cancel" does NOT work, you can cancel cruise using the steering wheel cancel button to get out of cruise. Anyway, GREASE is the key.

Thank you for this video! I didn’t realize that the cruise control switch was not the brake switch until this video. Saved me money for sure.

I had this same problem, I couldn’t find the part here locally for my i30t so I just attached a small binder clip onto the bracket with the hole so it would engage/push in the pusher works great as a temporary fix.

I have a 97 nissan maxima and for removing the brake light switch you said to rotate it counterclockwise. I've been doing that and that's all it's doing is rotating, not coming a loose.

Thank you! Just so happened to look out my windowlast night at 1:00 a.m. and I saw my brake lights were on and obviously my battery had drained but earlier that morning I was in my car and I felt something underneath my foot I thought it was a rock but just going out to check my car right now It was actually the grommet.

So it's the switch to the left when you are sitting in the seat that is the problem with the brake lights?

OMG this was the absolute worst 20 minutes of my self learning mechanic life. The area is so small to get to and twisting the sensors back into its slot is such a headache! But I did it. Brake light is still showing but I honestly believe I need a new resistor and a restock on fuses. My maxima is an '03 and I purchased it from an older lady who did nothing to the car but change oil and keep it moving. I just made the switch to all LED lights so that could also be tripping the computer. I'll see what happens after I get new fuses and a new resistor.

Had a completely different issue - shorted the dome light fuse installing some LEDs and tying them into the passenger dome light. No biggie, there are 3 spare fuses in the fuse box as I recall. Yup - perfect. Replace it, finish wiring some cabin lights, test 'em and of course hey work... Go to back the car in before I leave for the night... Won't shift out of Park...!!! Oh FÜÇK...! I know about the Shift Lock, but I knew if I needed it - I had no brake lights, and I'm a driver - at NIGHT...! (Not that I'd drive without in daylight) Panic sets in... I bolt to Autozone hoping the guys would know where I should check first, but they're as useless as tits on a bull. I drive home to begin my research... And your BRILLIANT self pops up. So....... @0:15..... "Check your fuse". I did - nothing said "BRAKE LIGHT"... Wait. Pulls cover again. "STOP LIGHT"....... Needless to say - You're my friggin hero tonight dude...!!!
