Question... I keep getting told that my '01 pathfinder requires the ball joints to be 'pressed' on. Despite the three bolts. What are they talking about? What needs to be pressed?

Sounds like you need a new mechanic or a new garage. Bushings get pressed in... not ball joints in 1999 - 2004 Pathfinders.

How long it's take to remove drive shaft ?...I need to replace CV boots
@ThisOldMan-ya472
@ThisOldMan-ya472 5 жыл бұрын
The time required to replace parts depends greatly on rust and if you have the tools. Once you remove the strut and can drop the spindle (first you have to pull the cap and remove the axle clip, or the clip could be under the spline cap(6 bolts)), then you undo the six bolts from the differential case and the axle just slides out.

@@ThisOldMan-ya472 Okey, then I am going to do the CV boots replacement in the same time when I will do Right side Strut replacement...thank you for info

The reason you had problems with the lower ball joint castle nut is you were using imperial sockets on a metric nut
@ThisOldMan-ya472
@ThisOldMan-ya472 2 жыл бұрын
Surprise surprise. I have both Imperial and Metric equally available, and often nuts are not how they seem. 🙂

You don’t have to remove spindle. Just loosen axle from spindle and you have enough room to remove lower ball joint

Was the strut leaking or seeping? Usually Pathfinder struts last 250k. I never replace a weeping strut, unless there is an issue with bounce.

@@ThisOldMan-ya472 2 weeks ago during exhaust front and rear manifolds replacement I noticed right Strut is leaking. I bought KYB Struts, Mounts, bearings, boots and I'm going to use my old Coil springs. I ordered Spring Compressor from Amazon for $39 only.

If it was just a ball joint or lower control arm, I've done it without taking all that off.

Were you using a hoist, because it would be a bit awkward with just floor jacks?

@@ThisOldMan-ya472 yes I was buddy, hey did you know when I did front wheel bearings and cones with a new seal, the internet surgest a bearing pre load of 60 ft/pd which is incorrect. I had to do the bearing retainer up until the disc nearly didn't move otherwise you won't get enough clearance to put the circlip back on the end of the cv shaft. Once you tighten bearing retainer up tight loosen it again and re apply 13 ft/pd for correct bearing clearance.
@ThisOldMan-ya472
@ThisOldMan-ya472 3 жыл бұрын
@@troyball6623 Well, that isn't quite correct... you torque the nut down to 60 ft-pd, spin the hub, back off the nut slightly to take off the load, then re-tighten to 13 INCH-Pounds.

People do not do this he obviously doesn't know what he's doing all you need to do is take cap off axle and remove snap ring so you can pull your knuckle out off axle enough to get ball joints out this is completely wrong you don't have to take anything off only snap ring lol
