Don't remember ever seeing this Gladiator program for Elvis. Really liked it. I kind of wish he would have kept it for 2002.

I'm pretty sure this was the only time he ever skated it because he was injured the rest of this season. I haven't watched it in forever, so I don't remember if it's any good or not! The only thing I remember was that he was a mess on the jumps at that competition.

Thank you for uploading. Sandhu was on fire here because he was finally free of all expectations of him. )) May be it was the real reason why he failed his SP so often. )) But to speak ernestly, among all others he did look like as a prince on ice with his aristocratic pure lines, movements and beautiful high jumps. Yes, he never was stable and consistent but neither he was ever dull and not interesting to watch, especially this FS with the personal meaning to him, about his own big journey before that season. And he put so much personality in it without falling in extreme like in case of Pluschenko here: he'd overplayed so much that it looked actually almost vulgare... I am glad that here Sandhu has got what he wanted: to be in the first 10 and together with Stoiko he obtained 3 quotas for Ol. 2002. Respect to Elvis for applauding Emanuel after his skating.

Although Yadugin was sick, based on the major errors in his LP, he shouldn't even have made the podium. Todd, being a much better all-around skater than Plushenko, should have won this title with his two flawless programs. But...with this being the last Worlds before the 2002 Olympics, the ISU judges weren't about to break the momentum of the Yagudin/Plushenko rivalry going into those Games, so they chose Plushenko for the win and threw the silver to Yagudin. Todd was better than both of them here, even without the quad.

Todd looks like poop here, and his skating contributes this image. It’s not even close to Plushenko or Yagudin with artistry or technique (no quads at all)

I'm a big Todd Eldredge fan and I do feel that his "Gettysburg" should have picked up the silver over Yagudin's more ragged performance of "Gladiator" that day. I did feel a bit sorry for Alexei; that was a great program for him wnen he was in full health. But no, Todd wasn't going to beat Evgeni and he really shouldn't. Plushenko's program. "Once upon a Time in America," is delightfully weird and avant garde; it was more "out of the box" than Todd's piece. That makes an impression. Plush's opening combination jump, well executed here, marked the first time the quad toe-triple loop- double toe had ever been landed at the Worlds, and the substituted triple axel was huge and impactful. At this time Plushenko had just about the strongest jump technique of all the male skaters and he simply left no room for the other skaters with his confident execution of the jumps, which this time were more varied and carefully placed through most of the program. Evgeni's circular footwork sequence was more difficult than Todd's footwork and the grace notes of the Beillman spiral and spin at the end created a beautiful symmetry. Evgeni clearly connected with this film and there's an understated but present connection to the music, more here than I had seen in some of his earlier programs. The program had a mysterious and cool edge and he never dropped off in intensity while skating it. I thought Todd performed well at this competition. But the right guy won.

What major error did Yagudin make in SP? He was absolutely sensational and caused standing ovations
@L1623VP8 ай бұрын
@@Fslove-zo4nk No, there were no major errors in the SP. I originally thought he'd had problems in both programs. Even so, a clean SP with one quad shouldn't have been enough to make up for his very mistake-ridden LP to place him in second overall above Todd Eldridge who had two pristine programs. Todd should at least have won silver at these Worlds, and in my book gold, but the skating higher powers wanted to keep fueling the Yagudin/Plushenko rivalry going into the 2002 Olympics. That's figure skating.

Todd Eldredge should have won no less than silver here. Although without a quad, he had the best program of the night and performed it really well. Full offense but Yagudin was sloppy here.
@cherylhulting1301 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I used to scratch my head at how sloppy Alexei could sometimes be, and yet still be able to beat Todd by virtue of having the quad. I don't mean to dismiss Yagudin; he was a fantastically talented skater. But at times he could be less consistent than Todd because Alexei could let his control get away from him. I still can't help but feel that Todd should have beaten Alexei for the World Championship title in 1998.

Emmanuel Sandhu before all that cosmetic surgery and fillers. I wish Elvis had retired and coached him. His coach Joanne McCleod was a hot mess who screwed up the careers of many skaters with great skill and potential including Sandhu. She didn't have what it took to make great skaters into champions.
