What I love about your videos. Its very obvious you leaned from doing alot of these and show in a very practical way! One thing I was wondering. I have this engine with the stripped out head bolts in rear. I wanted to try to use a longer head bolt with slightly bigger threads. I know this is a short cut but not interested in putting more time/money in my 200K Camry. Is there a way to move the rear cam out of the way so you can replace one or more head bolts on the rear side of the top of the head? Thank You!

for what I understand you are trying to avoid the timing chain cover correct? you can but very very careful, rotate the engine till you see a little bit of slack or loose on the chain n leave it there, mark the links and teeth on cam gears and chain so you dont get lost at the time of installing every thing back, secure camshafts and carnkshaft so the engine wont move at all, remove the chain tensioner and proceed to do the rest, but dont recommend to do it like this since once you have stripped off bolts the antifreeze goes in the cylinder #4 and if you leave it like that the engine might get stuck or seize so be carful, thanks for sharing with US very appreciated.

I wanted to try to swap the rear head bolts for head bolts for longer slightly bigger threads, (a few ebay sellers claim these longer bolts use fresh threads the original ones did not).. I will zip tie the chain to sprockets as well. Much thanks for the advise!

I’m currently changing out the timing chain on my daughter’s 08 Camry with a 2.4 and I’m kinda curious what would happen if you tried installing the vvt cam gear in the locked position? Even though I do have a new one on the way, after watching this video I decided to go and try installing the old one that I removed in the locked position thinking it might not go in but it slid right in 🤷🏽‍♂️

hi and thanks for watching, it will fit both ways locked n unlocked until now no problem, if you installed it in the lock position the problem will come later on with correlation or timing over codes, hope this helps.

Hi I have a 2007 Toyota camry 2.4 has p0335 code car crank no start replace the crankshaft sensor with oem denso sensor still crank no start I plugged ob2 scanner when cranking the engine has rpm signal what should be the problem I’m lost is the timing jumped? Need advice please thanks in advance

if rpm are read by the scanner, with the scanner check if cams are sincronized, check fuel and spark, if fuel, spark and cams are sincronized then probably time if off. so many vehicles do this: when they crank but they cant start the the pcm sets codes for crank or cam sensors even though the problem is not the crank or cam sensors, n that is because they cant start so the pcm sets all those codes, if car is missing fuel then pcm wont set codes for that, instead you might get crank or cam sensors codes.

if you didn;t have this code before then may be you installed it in in the lock position, only way would be redoing it and reinstalling it the right way so the code goes a way.

unfortunately if it is Timing Over-Retarded, that is the engine out of time not the cam sensor, hope this helps

sorry I mixed to different answers for to different People n I sent you the wrong answer for the wrong code so I want to apologize with you, normally this code means some thing is wrong with the oil control valve (variable valve timing solenoid) so check that in that intake side behind the engine, there are ways to test it.

bad vvti cam gears will cause mis, rattle on start, and cam position sensor codes.

Engine is not on time, probably did not unlock and lock the cam gear or bad timing setting.
