Great video. I have a 2012 with the 1.8 engine that rattles on cold starts. The rattle lasts about 10 seconds. Could the tensioner be the problem? It’s worse if the car hasn’t been started in a few days.

Always do the simple things first if you take off valve cover and can wiggle the timing chain on top then it needs to be replaced look at other videos how to do it but after you install it remember to put a socket on grank shaft and turn it one full turn until you hear it engage if you have the valve cover off you can see it engage and hear it but study videos all of them and take notes on paper tensioner is on the passenger side way down two 10 mil bolts easily comes off and on

If your gonna go that far with it also do the timing chain tensioner you also haft to aling the timing chain to top dead center there about 30 $ and last up to 100.000 miles

You remove the VVT completely from the inlet camshaft and you didn't adjusted before you fix it again to the camshaft need to put it backwards 45 degree then you can tight to camshaft to adjust the timing..like that the VVT will not be accurate in function.

Nice cleaning job. That brake in the cam is often due to choked filter in the block hidden behind the power steering pump, which didn't seem to look at.
