Dude you helped me so much my idle was surging after warm up went outside and sure enough the hole by the injectors was sucking in air. Threw on a plug and idles right at factory ! Your the man earned my sub

Thanks so much for that information. I’ve ordered a new 70mm TB and adapter plate for my 03’ type s. 221k miles and new stage 2 clutch and it was doing exactly the same. Took the TB off to see light passing through it.

I’m troubleshooting a high idle that occasionally fluctuates. I just swapped a k20a2 into my base. I replaced the iacv with an aftermarket unit and the problem is still there only now it’s slightly worse. I’m going to try this trick next. Thanks for the helpful video

Good luck! Would really appreciate you sharing what you find out. It def sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. We are currently working on another RSX with a fluctuating idle that we are going to smoke test. We will post a video on this procedure so everyone can see how we do it, what we use and the end results! -Dutch

@@dutchmenmodsandrepairs1427 thanks! I don’t think I have a vacuum leak as my fuel trims are normal at idle and cruise. I double checked all my lines and gaskets with parts wash too. Gonna swap out the throttle body this coming week. Hopefully it fixes it. I’ll keep this post updated on what I find 👍 I also heard a bad alternator can cause a high idle. I did replace mines with an aftermarket unit. Other than checking voltage at the battery do you know a way to test this?

@@da73 although in some extreme case perhaps a bad voltage regulator on the alternator could cause something like that, it would also show up in all kinds of other electronic devices in the car. So I wouldn't go that route yet. I would check the IAC port input inside the throttle body. Remove the intake hose, start the car and wait for your car to warm up and get in open loop. Once you have idle fluctuation, very VERY carefully tightly place a rag just over that input port to block off air being pulled in by the IAC (if it is). If the idle drops down and stops fluctuating you could have an IAC that is stuck open or partially open. Check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGazkJ2AmZh2Y6s. You more than likely have an issue with it or you have a vacuum leak somewhere on the engine. -Dutch

@@terp_a_derp_ hi Daniel, I ended up deleting it. It got way better but the idle still fluctuates at idle 900-1200 rpm. So I’m still trying to figure that out. I also swapped throttle bodies, and replaced the iacv with a new oem one. I’m starting to think it may have something to do with the aftermarket alternator I installed as when monitoring the voltages the idle reacts with it.

Running into this issue intermittently on my K20a2 swapped EP3. I made sure to clean all intake/TB parts before install. When the surging happens Kpro shows the throttle position at zero. The car does idle high usually and ramps down to idle RPM slowly when coming to a stop. I'm thinking it is either a vacuum issue like you stated in the video, going to diagnose a little and make sure all my lines are connected correctly, or even some gunk that got into the butterfly valve after my engine keeps sucking up water with the CAI (out in california we aren't used to rain haha). Anyway thanks for the video, going to help me troubleshoot.

If Kpro is showing that, then you can almost bet the issue is a vacuum leak of some kind or an iacv that is stuck open/partially open. Good luck with troubleshooting and feel free to pop back in here anytime with some additional thoughts or feedback. -Dutch

@@dutchmenmodsandrepairs1427 just checked all vacuum lines and they are all attached and in good visible shape. Looking like it might be time to take the throttle body off and do some closer inspection

This is k24 in the vid yes? I have the k20 and its doing the high rev (2500rpm ) stop and go traffic mostly. I suspect its IAAC valve more so than the IAC itself. Its sucking in more air than necessary at higer op temp.. 🤔 thanks for the insight gents!

Yes, this is a K24, but all of this is from a K20/K24 swap. The engines on the top half and front are almost identical. Throttle body items are also very similar! You def have a vacuum leak of some kind (whether faulty intake items or an actual leak somewhere). you could try eliminating the vacuum line from that to the intake (plug it) and see if your problem goes away or changes. -Dutch

I have the same problem , I took of the TB and saw some light passing thru , not much but it’s there. I’m going to replace the TB. Is there any aftermarket TB you recommend or should I just look for an OEM TB ? Thanks in advance

Without actually being at the vehicle this would be hard to determine as it could be a number of things. It could be a stuck or binding throttle plate, vacuum leak, faulty TPS, faulty throttle cable, bad engine temp sensor, etc...

Hi there! I don't exactly know if there is a quick or easy way to fix that. It would require replacing the throttle plate itself which I am not sure whether that can be done easily. In my opinion, you'd be better off just replacing the throttle body completely. -Dutch

Replace the throttle body. You could change out the idle position sensor for a quick fix and will still pass smog. Just pay the money and get it done right.
