Coolant could be leaking out of a few spots in the 3800 engine. These spots can include the intake, the little elbow valve, the water pump, the radiator hoses, drain plugs, and even some other spots. I recommend using UV dye to spot where your coolant is leaking from.

Me and my mechanic have a mutual respect for each other - I'm good to him and he's good to me, I know a lot of about fixing cars I just can't do it health wise so I tell him exactly what's wrong with the car and make it as easy as I can anytime I bring my car in, he has even borrowed some of my knowledge about cars before

Sounds like somebody I have met before (whisper around the block people). I am sure they heard the original diagnosis due to neglect (pricey I am sure). Then went to auto parts store for some goo' added water and it worked until it clogged and blew a gasket after trapping the vent cap! Send some of your patience my way. I started to sweat hearing this story; only thing calmed me down is me telling myself you made it up (lets go with that; a testing scenario)~ 😎

Been there done that. Glad you have put this job behind you. It is a never ending pit of frustration. I have started work for people just as you have described and it would quickly escalate into a financial nightmare for me. I would stop and walk away. Yes I would take a hit, but well worth the loss of just a few dollars to cut loose from the headache.

Seriously its not your fault but you couldve diagnosed it for her no charge out of good faith. She was already gonna have dig deep for the repair. I work on cars all the time and sometimes you gotta make sacrifices and overlook profit and seek the customers happiness. But sometimes you just cant please some people. Keep up the good work

I hate that crap. I had one once that used to sit there and watch every move I made. She was a woman who had no clue about cars whatsoever. Then had the audacity to try and say stuff like "oh why do you have to do this" as I was cleaning off and relubcricating her caliper slide pins. She complained at the end that I took too much time doing little stuff like that and was milking the job. Completley clueless as to how important those things were Lol. Never worked on her stuff again.

Some people have learned that if they complain loudly they will get free stuff! They don't like to pay for necessary things. But they have $1000 phones, $500 purses,$200 shoes. Best thing to do is just move on ,this Buick is a nice challenge for you. But I can already see this is a can of worms customer and car.
