I nearly didn't do this while replacing my radiator. My dad happened to call and ask how things were going when he asked if I burped the system. I had no idea what he was talking about and had to look it up. Thank God I did!

I've watched at least 10 different coolant change or flush videos to find the common steps between each video and I learn something new from each video. The thermostats needs to be installed on with hole at the top for the air to flow through was something I wouldn't have catch. Thank you so much!!

that was a very well rounded treatment of the subject, covered all the possible situations and solutions, thank you! Some vehicles have the heater core at the highest point in the system and those can prove a little stubborn in ridding air lock. However that is usually achieved with repeated heat up and cool down with circulating coolant. Just be sure to have plenty of reservoir coolant available in the expansion bottle so that as the air is purged there is enough coolant to fill the void.

I had to replace the radiator and purge. Now my gauge barely gets past warm. So you think if I just do the purge process a few times it could relieve a block at the heater core?

I'm just coming to upvote and comment for visibility anytime I see a video for this. I had been chasing an issue in my 2011 WRX, and it turned out to just be that boxers, and those with a TMIC in particular, have to be burped a specific way. So, yes, air can cripple your car and make you think you have a major issue. I must have just had air at the water pump or something, because I could not get any circulation, even after replacing my thermostat. Proper burp, fine.

The funnel he's using cost around $30. I bought a simpler one at Walmart for $3. It's just a regular funnel but with a wider outlet. It fits snuggly into most radiators, and if it's loose you can just wrap it a little with duct tape. Works real well for this job.

After new radiator, hoses, thermostat, etc. you just have to be really careful the engine is cooling. Then make sure heat is working. In not too hot weather, I like to drive with heat on low and window open. If the heat quits you'll soon have an overheating engine due to inadequate fluid flow. Likely from a leak.

50/50 mix is needed for -34F Freezing point. 33/67. It's rated to 0. Which means you still won't do damage until you get well below 0F. I live where there's almost never below 0F. I've been buying 1 gallon of antifreeze and 2 gallons of distilled water. Mixing it to get 3 gallons of 33/67 mix. I've used this for 2 decades. Never a problem. Antifreeze jugs used to have a mixture chart.

My 97 Accord EX started to overheat when I was waiting to make a Left turn to go inside the mall parking lot, I saw smoke coming out of my hood I looked at the temperature gauge and it was maxed out all the way to the top Red line Hot. I quickly pulled over, parked my car shut the engine off looked underneath my car there was radiator fluid leaking out like a water tap. I had to call my buddy to bring me some radiator fluid and water. It turned out to be a slow leak, I still managed to drive it back home and to work the next day while monitoring the temperature gauge. As I'm halfway through my work shift fluid starts leaking out, I had a bottle of radiator fluid in my car to top up after work I got down to figuring out where the leak was coming from sure enough it was the heater core hose a tight spot to reach. There was a small pin hole inside the hose causing the fluid to leak out, after replacing the hose and topping up on radiator fluid and water it stopped leaking and the temperature gauge is where it should be at Normal.

Omg! I'll try this right away! And then I'll update my comment 😅. I had my radiator repaired and after that the temperature rises at high speeds. I'm using the vehicle without thermostat since then. I've tried to install the thermostat but the temperature issue returns. I'll try to purge the air out.. If it doesn't solve the problem I think there might be something clogged in the system. (Hot a/c is not working either)

Oh, look, a Silverado missing push pins on the radiator beauty cover :D A lot of the mid 90's to early 2000's GM 3100's and 3400's had a bleeder valve on a pipe that ran just above the front tappet cover. If you were lucky, the valve wouldn't be seized and break off when you tried to open it to bleed the air out. Good times.

I have a 2012 Ford Taurus 3.5l and I just changed the fluid to put all clean antifreeze in it, and I have used everything shown here, still has air in there somewhere. I did a pressure test to see if it has a hole anywhere in the system and it held 25lbs of vacuum for 30 minutes so no leaks in the system and I did a compression test and it’s still fine so I don’t like the fan staying on at almost full blast and I know it’s not the fan or anything to do with it I have all new and I tested it in my wife’s Taurus and it did it’s job perfectly. Am I going to have to continually open the pressurized overflow cap to release air from the overflow until it’s out?

Can you tell me how to drain and bleed and burp my car's coolant system? I have a 2005 Impala 3.4 L. It has a radiator cap, reservoir/expansion tank, a bleed valve above the water pump, and a bleed valve on top of the thermostat housing. I followed the intructions in the manual. I only got 4 quarts out when it has almost 12. When I tried to refill it, I turn on the car and heat like the manual says but coolant comes out of the radiator way before it gets hot, so I put the cap back on.
