My 2002 silverado 4x4 4.8l was really frustrating me as it was running and hour prior to me trying to start it had power but no crank. Was getting ready to remove starter and for some odd reason I tried turning my drives haft heard a click. Immediately I hooked battery back up and tried turning it over and it fired right up. Hope this helps.

Hi. Great tips. So I put my truck in neutral and a LOUD AKWARD BIZZING SOUND HAPPENED? Im in a 5th wheel. & had some damage done by a jerk next to me the last place i was. Cut water lines etc. Anyway.. Short story. I had to plug a 120 watt inverter in my lighter and ran a industrial ex cord thru to the RV to use to cbarge my phone for the last 2 weeks till i fix the outlet issue. ....now JUST HAPPENS 2 nites ago i started the truck to check turn signals ext... (always override headlites) & trucks so quiet did t realize it was on still!! 6 hours later!! I ran out & shut it off! But. NOT OUTTA GAS! Next day walked for 5 gal gas. Wouldnt start. Walked for 2 more. Still. Wont start. Ill add.. My battery has died 3 times in 2 months without explanation. My flashlight jumper ALWys works 1st try! Now it wont jump it either. ....pretty sure i just read the IGN C under the hood can kill the battery too? Or prevent a charge? IS THAT RIGHT?. IM BROKE DOWN ..NO WAY TO CHECK RELAY. I jumped the relay to start my truck today. I checked the large fuse but not the smaller one. The key lock inside the driver side door fell out. Since that happen I haven’t been able to open the door. So checking that crank fuse will be impossible right now.

2002 Tahoe and I'm having intermittent starting issues. If the starter relay is bypassed it starts. I just checked all the fuses and the 10A crank fuse under the dash is blown. The car still starts. I literally just checked the fuse and it still starts. Checked all fuses with a test light. What's my next step in diagnosing because our cars have literally the same setup. Any help is appreciated.

@@kdweld8234 I had a S10 I had to bypass. trick I used so it couldnt be stolen easily was I put 5 of those little metal old school light switches on the dash, you gotta know which three to flip, the two extras are dumb switches so its like a combination lock to start it.

You seem to know whats up? I had a shop do a repair on my truck they replaced the key lock cylinder. The housing the lock cylinder is in and the ignition wiring harness . When i got it back. I pull the keys out and the battery light stays on in the message center. Any idea of the cause?

02 Silverado I tried the crank fuse trick but got no love. What next? I did replace the ignition switch-somewhat. I'm a bit stumpered as someone had spliced in a relay at the connection behind the fuse panel. There is a green wire coming out of the relay that goes to a 7 wire ribbon that goes up into the dash. I know he had a high powered stereo system in there at one time. I suppose I should hook it up the same as the truck has been running fine for a year.

What you are describing may be a GPS tracker with starter interrupter.. Commonly installed by used car dealerships on vehicles that are financed.

When I turn the "gear" all the way clockwise, the pin of the first sprocket that is a little wider than the rest, ends up prety much centered between the 2 copper tabs in the side "window"(wish I could send pics) This is the same position my old one was in but now the battery light is staying on(no ignition either)

I want to bypass the little 20 amp fuse under the hood and install an inline fuse outside of the fuse box so i can wire through my hi-beam wire. Do you know what color wire feeds the little 20 amp fuse in the harness? I'll try to find wiring diagram as well but any short cut is welcome ! 🙏

I have been battling this intermediate problem of no start, no crank for past 6 weeks. It will be fine for days and weeks and then bites me in ass when I need the truck the most. So I had a key made at Walmart just to be a door key… well it turns out that somehow it started my truck so I have been using that key for a week now w/o any problems. Today i locked my keys in my ignition and had to slim Jim in and push unlock button to gain access inside. After doing so I got in and my truck wouldn’t start. Just acts as if the starter don’t work but I know its fine. The security light is flashing now as well. If I run direct power to the 10 amp fuse inside it don’t try to start either. Just a ding from Interior. But if I run power to a spot where the relay goes it cranks but sounds real weird and don’t actually start up. Lots of info I know but I’m at a loss and stuck in some parking lot. Anyone with any ideas on this weird situation help me out? Already did the 3x10 min off/on deal to reset security but did t work. HELPPPP plz.

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra.... When I go to start the truck it'll be fine for a month, or two... Twice it left me stranded where it would run fine, then when I turn it off to make a stop, it'll not start at all... Clicking noise, lights flickering, radio comes on but that's it.... It will start when it feel like it .... You've mentioned a transmit something... Where is that located? And thank you for the tip too!

If it is the transmission safety switch you may have luck putting the truck into Neutral then attempting to start it again. If the lights are flickering tho I would suspect something else like a bad connection somewhere. Are the battery terminals clean and tight?

I had an *internally* corroded battery cable once. The terminal looked great, but after cutting the insulation away, it was green and white with corrosion *Hidden Inside*. It would do the weirdest things until I found that bad cable. Then, all fixed

First thanks for the instructional. I am at wits end with my 02 Silverado. Checked battery and connections all good. There is a loud buzz coming from under the dash (dr side) with the battery connected snd key in off position. If i turn yhe key it stops buzzing, but No Sign of power to anything...no lights, dome light, radio, dash lights, absolutely nothin. Any ideas on this? My 05 Yukon Denali attempts to crank but it only turns crankshaft less than 1/8 of a turn. I energized crank fuse and nothing. Put trans in neutral, try again, same thing. It seems crank pulley doesn’t want to turn. Ani ideas? I replaced the starter and same thing happens. Tried to manually turn nut on crankshaft pulley clockwise and it only turns about a 1/4 of the way. I’m befuddled.

Samantha Willard Believe it or not, it was literally just the terminals of my batteries being too dirty. I took them all off and I cleaned them with a wire brush and clean the battery with a wire brush reconnected them and they’re great now.

@@keving2371 it was something like that. The problem was the plastic connection better the ignition tumbler and actual switch had broken apart. There is a pin in the tumbler that completes the security circuit. I put the tumbler in place of the on position, and removed the ignition switch gear from the housing, starting it with my thumb under the column

good info...my 2002 gmc will often not crank when I turn the key. I have replaced the key switch and transmission range (safety). This seems to happen when the vehicle has sat for several hours. Eventually I can get it to start after several attempts. I seem to hear a small click after messing with it ..then it starts. Is there some kind of relay in the key switch... I have never had it not crank after driving and stopping/starting etc...

@@familiafightclub7407 I think it was my starter I replaced it and it worked after that, Had trouble Since then, If you don’t think it’s your fuel pump try the fuse under the hood for fuel pump relay, also replaced crank position sensor that’s behind the starter, it seem to help but not fix the problem, because my truck wouldn’t start when it was warmed up it seemed like, Brother-in-law mentioned it wasn’t getting spark from crank sensor, But Since I remove the relay and flipped it around backwards or perhaps the right way I haven’t been having a problem
