To quote Darrell Waltrip"I just want to cry for poor Jerry Nadeau." He derseved the win so much and it would have been great for his career.

I remember this day. I was 9 years old and had been a Ricky Rudd fan since I saw his number 10 Tide car on display outside of a nearby grocery store when I was 4. This was my first ever NASCAR race I had been to, and ironically the last win for Ricky Rudd, even more ironic considering Rudd was the first Winston Cup winner at this track in 1989. I can still remember jumping and screaming like crazing when I saw Nadaeu pull off on the hairpin and saw Rudd take the lead right in front of where I was sitting. Rudd is who inspired me to want to get into racing.

I felt terrible for Nadeau, but at the same time- Ricky Rudd had absolutely zero luck in June and had a bad break himself at Pocono. if anyone was going to take advantage of what happened to Nadeau, it couldn't have happened to a guy who deserved a break.more at the time.

Totally agree. Rudd's luck had been awful that year. At least three times he had probable wins yanked from him due to circumstances not of his making. Never like to see anyone blow up at the end, but happy Rudd finally got a break.

2:06:46 I couldn't have said it any better. It really is a shame. One of the ultimate underdogs back in the day, passionate to win. Even though he won only once, he could just never get there as often as he wanted to....

Great turnaround here for Kurt Busch- at this race a year ago, he was on Gilligan's Island. Here- starts 2nd and finishes 4th!
Another bad break for Jeff Gordon. The best car in the race & the transmission breaks. In the first half of the 2002 season, Gordon had at least 5 wins disappear at Daytona, Darlington, Bristol, Martinsville & this race.

Especially Daytona cause once he got the lead with 20 to go their was absolutely no passing him.

@@daltin92 Daytona foreshadowed the first half of his season... He had the best car in clean air & the restart screwed him up big time. Sterling Marlin also going below the yellow line on the restart didn’t help either.

@Steventhe2nd True, but the bad breaks in those races probably cost Gordon his chance to repeat as champion.

Ah the first year without Gilligan's island. I remember in 2001 fox made a big deal about Gilligan's island, playing the song while showing the guys pitting there. And dick Bergeren like wore some really odd outfit instead of the typical pit reporter costume
