Glad to see that you did not just give up, I have seen many this way. The wiring harness laying on the valve cover is always a bad idea. I use a 3/4 in hose to wrap up the harness in that area. Ron taught us so much, such a loss to his family and this platform. May he rest in peace. Great video sir.

Best video I've seen on this issue, carefully explaining each step and how to methodically hunt down these issues with careful attention to the details. Thank you! My rig has been plagued with a P1316 and now I feel like I can go after finding out why. Some of my wires were rubbed through elsewhere, so now I'm off to check that bulkhead connector (underside)

it sad for tech ron ,i watch lot of his video many year ago .he was very good tech .those 7.3 are the same in internatial but call T444E i work alot on those one ...no scanner just count the flashing light on the year 98 99

I guess when I messed with the IDM I moved the harness slightly temporarily eliminated the short to the valve cover.

Unbelievable how one tiny short causes this much issues. My dad used to work on factory controllers that had thousands of wires each that I could not even imagine how he found shorts.

I'm using a Snap-on Verus Edge as a scanner. It is a touch screen tablet with internet access to Identifix for the schematics and service information
