My friend Bart bought an Accord for $250 and brought it over because the brakes were soft. It proceeded to blow a line in my driveway and the rusty fuel lines started leaking while removing the brake lines. New pre-bent lines go in all around, not a fun job at all!

I am being faced with a similar job now. After dropping the charcoal canister, I swear brakes fluid is coming out of the hose with the foam cover. But the line feels plastic. I thought all brakes lines were metal except where the brakes caliper. I may have to go back in with better lighting but it looks like the hose with the foam cover is the source of the leak.

If you can get a picture uploaded somewhere of the line and post a link I may be able to help some. I've never seen a brake line covered in foam, but air conditioner lines and fuel lines can be.

I have to get these things change on my 2002 Honda Accord roughly about how much does it cost to fix
@smsauce
@smsauce Жыл бұрын
The same parts I used are around $550 total to do all the work yourself. A shop that will bend their own lines should have a cheaper parts cost, but then you'll pay a bunch for labor. I don't know current shop rates, depends a lot on location, too.

This is a shitty job to have to do. In the process of doing it right now on my girlfriends brothers car. Love how some of the bolts for rear brake lines are under rear suspension components so you can't take them out without dropping suspension.

I just cut the old line at that bracket and pulled it through. I used the empty loop to wire tie the replacement line in place. If you are worried about vibration wearing at the line you can cut a sleeve of fuel tubing to space it out from the frame. It looked to me like the whole rear subframe would have to drop. No way was I about to open that rusty can of worms!

I like cardboard. Working on the rear passenger side brake line on a 1997 Honda Accord. It goes over the gas tank.

Actually can you remember if the ends of your brake lines were bubble or double flare?

I don't know what type they were since the lines came pre-made. This picture is the best to compare your own to: restosupplies.com/image/cache/catalog/Brake%20pipe/flare%20types-550x550w.jpg

There are three fuel line which one goes to which I am kinda confused cause I took everything out without recognizing it
@smsauce

I would have to watch the video again to try and see which goes where since it's been so long. If you can install the feed line first, that could make the other two super obvious. One of the larger two lines should go from the fuel pump to the inlet of the fuel rail. Then you'd only have one big line and one small line left over.

At 11:53 you use a 14 mm wrench on the line I was wondering does the line need a washer or no cause every time I tighten it it leaks from there..
@smsauce
@smsauce Жыл бұрын
@DreamVideoEntertain the bottom part at the time stamp.does not use a washer or anything. I would check that the flare on the end of the line is not damaged and that no debris got pinched between the surfaces. If the flare on the line doesn't look nice and symmetrical, it may need to be exchanged. I've had that happen before, and they just never seal if the flare isn't right.

What did the parts cost to do this brake and fuel lines replacement job? This is what I need to do on my 1998, it looks easier now since I watched this video. Thanks again!

The prices are a bit higher now. I got them from linestogo.com Fuel line set is part #FL1103-1A, paid $197.95, now $217.95, brake line section was listed for a V6, but part #BL-1111-SS1D. Paid $159.95 and now listed at $179.95.

Do you have to drop the subframe?
@smsauce
@smsauce Жыл бұрын
I did not for this one. If you wanted to clamp the rear lines in the factory location I think it would have to be dropped. The bolt doesn't have space to come out otherwise.

www.linestogo.com/product-finder/?year=1999&make=Honda&model=Accord&engine=&cab=&bed= You can sort by which engine you have, then front and rear lines will be separate parts. If you are not 100% sure they are the right fit for your car I would advise calling their phone line so they can confirm what you are ordering is correct.

I can’t recommend lines to go for brake and fuel lines because they refuse to stand behind their lines. I hired someone to replace mine. Within a hundred miles of having it done, the feeder fuel line going to the engine started squirting gas onto the engine. They refuse to warranty the small section of line, at least for the part. I have to get someone to spend 2-3 hours to take the lines to go feeder line off and replace it with one with a connector that isn’t defective.

Hey man great video I have to do this on my 2000 Accord same as yours also with drum brakes. I removed all the lines and I'm ordering from the same place you did. I have a question however when you removed the black box/canister on the driver's side did it help feed the that line or did you have to do remove something else. I'm stuck because I removed the lines leading from the master cylinder to the frame and once they go up near the gas tank I lose them. Any tips?

Do you mean this thing I put back in at 15:33? kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6XVaqNoZdmrkNE There is also a spot before that where I jam the lines behind some stuff instead of removing it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6XVaqNoZdmrkNE If you are still stuck post a link to a pic or something and I can see if it rings a bell.

Great video...may I ask for an opinion? I am looking to buy a 2001 Honda Accord EX V6...it is in great shape, has all the options, only needs 1 new tire and has only 66k original miles. However the brake line on the drivers side at about the middle of the car is leaking like a faucet. For 2k is that car worth getting and fixing? And I can not fix it myself so do you know what I would be expecting to pay at a shop to have it done?
@smsauce
@smsauce 3 жыл бұрын
Is it leaking because it's rusty like these were? It's a bear of a job and just going after the brakes broke the fuel lines on this one as well. It's hard to say if it's worth it without looking it over in person. Plus used car prices have been a bit wild lately. If you are in a rust belt state I will always advise spending a little extra to drive something home from the SW like Arizona or New Mexico. Sometimes it's just not in the budget, though. Overall if you will need to pay a mechanic to fix up stuff most of the time a car that old will cost more in the end than something newer that starts with no issues.

@@smsauceThank you for replying. I am in MO. This seems to be the only thing wrong with the car but without taking off that plastic cover yet I would venture to say that all lines would be like your were and beyond repair. I want to prepare for the worst in my head to see if I can actually afford this. Last ditch effort, due to Covid I haven't worked since March. I have just enough to get this vehicle and hopefully turn things around. This is labor I can probably do but would not trust because of my lack of experience with this. Brakes are too important to gamble with. Getting a car from.a dealership is out of the question, I just cant afford much to.fix this issue that needs to be fixed.

@@squigglypeterson7157 A shop may give you a ballpark quote if you ask how much to replace all rear brake lines and fuel lines. The owner of this car paid just under $400 for stainless steel pre-bent lines. I charged him $400 for the labor. Depending on the shop you may save money if they have bulk line and bend it themselves. But they will for sure charge more per hour than I did. We also had to replace the passenger rear caliper. The bleed valve was rusted in so badly I couldn't even remove it with heat in a vice off the car. I would try and find a different beater. While the Honda's are super reliable, it would suck to buy that one and have it sit at a shop because a can of rusty worms broke the budget. See what a few places quote, though.

www.linestogo.com/accord-brake-lines/ www.linestogo.com/accord-fuel-lines/ If you have trouble picking let me know the year, 2 or 4 door, and I4 or V6 engine. The rear brakes lines are the same for the I4 and V6 of this generation, and they only list V6 brake lines. They fit just fine. Good luck, it's a heck of a job!
