@mcnamash Yes, I would replace both pistons if you can afford it. Save the good one just incase you run into another problem. I would also make sure that you get all of the debris out of the motor. If you don't it could to happen again. Check out the rebuild videos if you haven't already. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Since you have this apart would it makes sense to replace both pistons? I have the same issue, will be replacing at least one. Compression was a bit low on both before the ring broke on the one. Also, had a piece of ring or debris fallen in the crankshaft, what should be done?
@Paisteboy13 жыл бұрын
@14waljar Please. They all break. besides, the problem was a c clip that popped out from the piston. It most likely was installed wrong by the mechanic that worked on it last season.

Cool video. Seems like that type of stuff also happens to 2 stroke dirt bikes(top end wearing out fast). Are other sled manufacturers more reliable or is it the nature of the beast with high rev 2 strokes that are a few years old ?

hey you were saying that you put BR9ECS plugs in that sled. Those are the plugs I switched to in my 2001 MXZ 700 and it helped ton with plug fowling. I would stick with them cause i find my sled runs much better now. I always run min 91 octane too. Love your vids, keep em comin!
@drewdew68745 жыл бұрын
was this from a c clip facing the wrong way. I think it happened to my sled. I didnt do the work though. C clip scored cylinder etc.

Not sure exactly which way it happened because we didn't do the bottom end rebuild but we know that one c clip was missing when we did the top end rebuild.

@blakenewton27817 жыл бұрын
A few points for those rebuilding Ski-Doo snowmobiles. You can basically get most sleds back to the late 90's on their parts diagrams. These will give exploded diagrams which are a big help. Next, the BR9ECS will not run hotter than any normal BR9ES plug. They all run the same temp regardless. Using Iridium, platinum or even V groove plugs helps combat fouling though. The comment made about loose carb boot studs is a serious indication of what may have caused failure. Again as stated in the video, it sounds like a shop "cheaped out" and didn't replace the pistons as a pair. I had the identical thing happen on an 809 triple. I just sold the parts and made more off the pieces than I spent on the sled.

@gruhland Thanks. I have Sony DCR-SR42. I bought it in late 2007. I use Sony Vegas to edit my videos and I can sharpen them and inhance the color with the program. If you check out my videos "White MTD Lawncycler LC 215 Lawn Mower: Part 1 & 2" you can see the difference between them because that was when I discovered the inhancing features. I tweaked it a little bit more from there. Lighting is key. In my garage, where I shot a lot of my videos, I have a bunch of fluorescent shop lights.

This sled did turn over but was running on one ctlinder. You can see if you watch my video kzbin.info?o=U&video_id=K6O2tfTa0bo Your problem sounds like a broken crank where something is obstructing it from turning over and it isn't something small or it would fall into the bottom end.

Always be sure to chamfer the ports properly! If not, rings hang and start a chain reaction causing failures. Not saying that's the cause here, but if someone rebuilt it.......could be.

the lose plug and the carb boots being lose is exactly what blew that engine that cylnder would have been running massively lean fyi

nativeman9111 Arctic Cat is unreliable, i've owned many sleds in my lifetime and most were high performance 600, 700 and 800cc and the most reliable to me was my SRX 700 triple and was also the fastest sled i've owned on top end speed, all my sleds were stock
@Paisteboy8 жыл бұрын
It really depends on a lot of things whether a sled is reliable or not. First off, was it a first-year model motor or chassis that hadn't been tested enough? Was there an issue with a motor that took years to realize was a chronic problem? How one maintains their sled is huge too. I haven't had huge problems with any sled that I've owned and I've owned all but Polaris. My old ski doo had zero problems and now I have a brand new one working perfect. My old Yamaha back in the day only gave me one issue and it was right before the season started. Possibly due to my failure to do a good summerizing. Old Artic Cats gave me and my friends the most problems, but I haven't owned one is modern times. I'm sure they are better now. Everyone has a horror story about a sled. This rebuild was not the fault of the motor but the mechanic that worked on it last. The next rebuild on this sled was due to running out of oil. This is my brothers sled not mine. lol.
