I miss Johnny; he was one of the few classy guys in NASCAR that wouldn't wreck ppl for a win [anyone can do that]. It cost Johnny 3 race wins [10/20/02 at Martinsville], 1 just prior to this race; ironically Benson came in 2nd to Kurt Busch/3rd place: Mark Martin. JB could have easily put the bumper to Busch just like J Gordon did to Busch earlier in the race. Fortunate for Busch it was ppl like Benson, Martin, [who race ppl clean], that trailed him. If it was one of todays drivers behind Busch at Martinsville in 02, he would've been wrecked, and afterwards we'd of all heard *"the speech"* by the one who wrecked him: *"I hate it for him; he check up; I didn't mean to wreck him;* blah/blah/blah..." *Class/integrity/character has faded away from NASCAR [and all sports today in America].* jmo

The Valvoline driver just beat the former Valvoline driver, they was teammates when Benson drove the 26 car.

I miss this era where there were so many other great drivers who came from the lower rank friday/saturday night short tracks & most of the drivers knew the cars inside & out & know how they work & can wrench on them just as well as the crew chief & the other team mechanics & Johnny Benson is no exception who has built many short track late models by himself & his father. I got to see Johnny Benson when he came to Canada to race at the old iconic 5/8th mile at “Cayuga Speedway” where Johnny came there to race in our old touring Canadian “Cascar Super Series” race along with fellow Nascar Cup & Truck series driver(s) Ted Musgrave,Dave Blaney,Ken Schrader,Tony Stewart,Matt Kenseth & there cars were all painted up the exact same as their Nascar Cup Series cars & Ted Musgrave's truck & that race was around 2002/03. It was one heck of a race that came down to 5 time Cascar Super Series Champion #4 Don Thompson Jr. & Matt Kenseth in which Kenseth ended up winning but Don Thompson didn’t make it easy for Kenseth but you could tell that Don Thompson had used his car up & right rear tire as he was starting to fish tail coming off turns 2 & 4 & Matt Kenseth made it look so easy & was just saving his stuff & rode behind Thompson for several laps & was riding up higher & laying rubber down in that upper groove in which technically drivers didn’t venture up there much but that’s why those six Nascar Cup Series drivers made it to Winston Cup 🏁 it’s so hard for a Canadian driver to make it to one of Nascar's top 3 tier series as much talent as Canada has believe it or not & Canada just doesn’t produce hockey players LOL 😂 Earl Ross is still the only Canadian to win a Nascar Cup race which was in 1974 where Earl won the “old dominion 500” race at Martinsville & beat 2nd place driver Buddy Baker by a lap. Ron Fellows has won a handful of races in the Exfinity & Truck series but i believe all on road courses in which as most Americans would know that Ron Fellows is one of the world’s best road course drivers. A handful of Canadian drivers have had a lot of great runs in the top 3 tier Nascar Series such as Jacque Vellenuve,Patrick Carpentier,DJ Kennington,Andrew Ranger etc.

it seems like currently in Nascar there is not enough short tracks for the cup series to race at this is one of the tracks that I would recommend nascar reopen

Rockingham is a 1 mile track it's not a shot track it's not a superspeed way either, it's unique and has character 170 in the straights and 135 Iin the corners, and the drivers loved coming here because it's a challenging track and you actually have to drive. I live 30min from Rockingham been to many races back in the day including this one, it hurts to drive by and see it sitting there wasting away.

They penalized Mark Martin after this race I believe not because of the supposed infractions but because of the team orders thing between him and Kurt. He ended up losing the title by more than 25 points anyway but it still broke alot of needed momentum for a team that really hadn't been hot for a few months.
