when making the oxo cubes you can mash them up before opening the foil, makes it easier to mix.

Those flavored food bars remind me of Seven Oceans lifeboat rations. They're very similar, though the Seven Oceans has more of a flavor. They taste like a very dense Scottish Shortbread. I have a case of them put back that's probably due for a rotate if they've stayed secure. I haven't looked at them, so they may have been compromised by mice. It's the only box of rations I don't see and examine on a regular basis because of where I stored them.

what a shame the coffee and tea were messed up, the food bar reminds me of the commercial ration bars like Mainstay

Kenco is really good instant coffee still been made and is a major coffee brand in the UK and Ireland, OXO is a brand of Beef stock and gravy they make a wide variety of commercial stocks, sauces and seasonings.

Also trust me when I say, that tea is usually disgusting. I'd be surprised that any contemporary British ration now, doesn't have Yorkshire tea in it. Best commercial tea there is in the UK

What you should have done with the Oxo cube is crumble it then add a pinch of salt and pepper to it then stir well. My family still drink it that way but we use a mug instead.

It's strange that some survival rations can be 30-40 + years old and still be fine, as experienced by Steve 1989. Fifteen years isn't THAT old for a survival ration, which only ever contain very long life items.

Karl P exactly. I was surprised too. The packaging seemed to be sealed and intact, but no good at all on the drinks. They all seemed to have a lot of moisture damage. Makes me think the storage conditions weren't great. That's the variable that makes all the difference

Actually the instructions call for half an OXO cube to a lid of water. That should bring the salt level down.

So cool. Thanks for this review. I remember steve1989 did the one that was all candy or since it was British I guess it was a can of sweets. Like this one better as there are other types of things. Sorry mold in drinks and creamer no good. Always wonder why the red tasters choice coffee in us rations almost always had mold at much higher rate than other types.

Yes, the tape reminded me of black duct tape. Bizarre how the coffee and tea all went bad. Have seen other mre reviews with much older coffee and tea which was in good condition. Nice job Gusto!

OXO or Bovril (meat extract drinks) are only ever drank by kids in the 1950s; at footy (soccer) matches in winter or by the military. Great review as always Gusto.

Honestly, I'd be the first to tell you that I have never been gifted with seamless, eloquent speech when it comes to describing things. Usually I cringe a bit during editing, wishing I had described things differently. But, I really prefer going through these things without scripting. That makes my reactions and descriptions more true to my initial reactions.
