My dad was on PT boats in the Pacific from 1942 until the end of the war. He spent about three months in an Australian forward naval base in New Guinea. He saw lots of these O2 tins and thought they were a great idea. We didn't have any 24 hour rations, so they had to carry a bunch of loose meals. As you can see from your O2 tin (or what's left of it), it was three meals that were in asphaltic paper that were then dipped in molten wax, kind of like our K rations. This was only done to help keep moisture out of them as the can inevitably "sweated" in jungle climates. The only protection was the vacuum sealed tins, and it seems that many of them had manufacturing defects that allowed the vacuum to escape after only a couple years. Australian troops in Korea were still eating O2 rations from late WWII and some of the contents had already started spoiling. I'm not surprised this one looks so terrible. Australian beef was used only on the homefront, so every can of corned beef, or bully beef as it was more popularly known to the troops, was imported from Argentina. It was only the Japanese submarines hunting down warships rather than merchant shipping that saved Australia from having serious supply problems. As you can see, none of the Australian meal included smokes. Aussies were supposed to buy them from army canteens, none of which were located in places like New Guinea forward bases. This gave my dad some real trading opportunities since he only smoked a pipe. He had a real taste for corned beef, which the Aussies grew to hate, so that was a cheap trade. The early Aussie rations had canned condensed milk, and my dad hated drinking coffee without milk. The Aussies generally hated drinking their tea without milk too, so he had to do some hard bargaining to get a tin of milk. It usually cost him at least two four packs of smokes, and sometimes more if the Aussie rations hadn't shown up in awhile. I spent a lot of time interviewing my dad about the war and transcribing the tapes to paper. I'm so glad I did this before his inevitable lapses of memory and decline to poor health. He passed away in 2005. I can read my journal of his tales of the war and feel like he's still here. RIP, Dad.

Please publish your interviews with your dad - somewhere, somehow. My grandfather was in the war we all called it the war - he was mock-executed by the Japanese outside his brewery in the New Territories in '37. He was present at the Bombing of Darwin (well, the first one, and few others), joined the RAAF, and was apparently trained up join either Z Special Force, or the Commandos. He never talked about it. I don't think that it was too traumatic or anything - though I sure there was plenty of that - it's just that he felt so humble. Plus, he was Chinese, living in Australia, and it wouldn't have done for him to talk about it back then.

And high durability! The purple nitrile gloves are some of the sturdiest in the business. The only gloves stronger are the black mechanics gloves that i get at the hardware store from time to time.
@Steve1989MRE6 жыл бұрын
Purple gloves really are!I edited a part out that maybe should be part of an outtake video. I pick up meal 3... it collapses under my pointer finger and it glides right on something sharp. I was worried it cut me so there went the box back on the set and me tearing my gloves off real fast to confirm what the heck had just happened. I was in the clear - and a big sigh of relief. The scene was about 30 seconds or so. This video ran at about an hour originally. There were a few interesting things that I decided to remove due to what sorta felt like a lack of flow and continuity.

It's a new peanut butter based lifeform. Since the video was posted it's been replicating and reproducing. Oh god, i just smelled peanut butter after I watched that.

Are you saying the food poisoning cost him $15,000 in hospital bills or something? Do you know which it was?
@abominationxlll6 жыл бұрын
E.coli from some Ukrainian ration that was in-date. It was before he started making videos though. He probably has insurance now would be my guess.
@tinaw.55386 жыл бұрын
Ryan that would be 15k in hospital bills. I saw a newer one of these and he said he still didn't have insurance. As long as his tetnus shot is up to date, he should be fine not having any really. You can tell he is a generally healthy person from the color of his nails, and his beefy arms.
