2002 Seadoo GTX DI Diagnosis and repair

That looks like the 951 DI motor? If so, it looked like compression was around 120psi. Is that okay for that motor? Shop manual doesn't like specs. I am getting 110 psi on my 2000 Rx 951 DI, and I figure it's time to do the top end because of the aforementioned and 225 hours. You're the best, love watching your videos. Thanks!

110 is a bit low. Typical engines I get that are still running strong are 120 - 122 on my gauge.

02 gtx di. Ski runs great np and has the double beep when putting the key on but the mode set buttons do not change anything on the tach. First few trips out it did work but just thought the button was going bad due to it being hard to change settings. Now it's just stuck on the compass. Put a new mode button in n still nothing? Would the rectifier cause the tach to not work or could the rectifier cause the battery to run down without being used. I got no maintenance light and ski runs fine?

this sounds like a possible wiring issue or a cluster issue. possible corrosion at connectors ? Unlikely that it is a power issue.

Corey Martin Good video. I believe I saw that same one for sale, I recognize the seat on that GTX DI and the story about how the previous owner was feed up (lol DIs are trouble). Regarding the fins on the back, they are the OPAS (off power assisted steering ) to help turn the sea-doo when the throttle is fully released. This www.jetdrift.com/sea-doo-opas/ is a good article which has more information, eventually (2008ish) OPAS was replaced by IBR.

Hoping you can help me out, I've watched many of your videos. Great work! I have a 2000 SeaDoo RX 951DI - runs amazing at speed, but stalls out on idle in the water. Supposed to idle at 1450, and it does that out of the water on a hose. When idling on water RPM's will come down to 1450, then drift down to 1440, then 1430, etc until it stalls. It will them be hard to start, and seems to start better with some opening of the throttle. Compression is at/a little over 120psi each cylinder. Any tips on what to look for would be greatly appreciated? I've replaced the fuel and air regulators, injectors, fuel pump filters, and tested pressure in fuel and air at the rail (good). I have a 2001 sea doo GTX DI. I had a PWC mechanic go through and service it. It has been sitting for six years. He told me that it needed new RAVE valves. I noticed that the valves he used to replace them with had a red top instead of the blue cap. I ran the ski for about 5 minutes at idle and it stopped dead in the water. Neighbor came over look at it with me we pulled one on the RAVE valves and it was chewed up. Guessing that either the wrong valves were installed or the clearance was not gaped correctly.. There are blue and red caps and that is not an issue. My guess is that the engine was rebuilt at some point and they bored out the cylinders and put in oversized pistons. I am guessing the mechanic did not verify that before installing the new raves ? If they are chewed up then the raves were too long and hit the piston rings and destroyed them. I am also guessing that you have cylinder damage as well. If you have a small scope camera you can pull the spark plugs and have a look in the cylinder to see what you see. Sorry about your mishap .

Can the candoo pro help with key issues or programming keys? Chasing a funky issue with mine. Does nothing with key inserted. But forsure getting power to computer.

Candoo can easily program keys but that does not mean that is your issue. If you get no double beep then either you have a bad beeper or there is an issue with the dess post..computer or wiring.

Hey I am trying to diagnose similar issue with 2001 GTX DI and have narrowed it down to insert DESS Key and get 2 beeps and Fuel pump primes DI,,, press Start and fuel pump primes again but no click at the relay/solenoid... if I jump the relay it turs over... I replaced relay but same.. seems only getting max 5v to the exciter wire that's supposed to trigger the relay.... only thing I can think is a short somewhere... but how to diagnose where and how to fix is beyond me! Any ideas?

So the fuel pump should not prime again after pushing the start button. 5 volts is too low for sure. I would check all connections at the computer and see if there are any broken pins or corrosion. Also test the main fuse at the computer and see how many volts are present.

I got a 2001 GTX DI with a P0335 Wrong pattern sensed on encoder. I cant figure it out

I just ordered my rotary valve shaft. I'm going to open the bottom end up to clean it up and get the brass shavings out. Is there a gasket in there? If so, could you provide me with the link or what gasket i need? I cant seem to find the answer anywhere. Thanks again!

There is no gasket in the bottom end. Just clean it up with acetone and apply a thin coat of loctite 5910 or permatex ultra black.

Can I just remove the Oil pump on my DI and mix the gas myself. Would it throw anything else off ?

No. The fuel injectors will not like oil in the fuel. They will clog up.

The issue is usually a faulty paddle wheel that is located at the back of the machine to the left of the pump. Cando pro has a gps module to replace that but it is currently out of stock but should be back in stock this summer.

hey man. just recently bought a 717 gti. needs a new rotary valve shaft. The plate on the engine side has some metal scratches through it. not very deep but there's 2 scratches. Will that affect anything? I was just maybe try to sand it down, but if not, is it going to affect the motor? Thanks.

I have had some machines with the worst scratches you have ever seen and they still run great. All I can say is give it a try. You should be ok if they are not deep.

Have a question for you My 03 gtx 4 tec will run amazing for about an hr then stutter and die I can leave it sitting for 30 minutes it will run good for about 2 minutes and then repeat if it sits over night it’s it does the same the next day runs good then randomly stutters and dies

This is pretty much impossible for me to diagnose without seeing the machine/ pulling any diagnostic codes etc.. It sounds like a fuel delivery issue or water in the fuel but too hard to tell.

No. it will mess up the fuel injectors / compressor oil and crank oil.
