Your video explained the problems I having with my speedometer. I was able to fix my issue without taking it to the Suzuki dealer and getting out of an expensive bill. Thank you.

I appreciate the thorough explanation and the instruction. I have the same bike and I experience the same problem while riding: it will be fine, then drop to zero, then bounce around, then hit zero and stay there for a while. I bet my speed sensor is broken in a similar fashion to your “before” scenario. I appreciate the close up of both the old and new apparatus. Good job!

just got new tyers put on my bike today and the sensor rotor was in bits when the front wheel came off just like yours. New rotor ordered should be here mid week next week. This vid will really help. Thanks ;)

There are at least 2 types of sensor in existence, both have the same part nr. , only the last digits are different. Both look identical but one type has 4 magnets the other 8. That one doubles your speed indication! 8 magnets = 34983-27G00 4 magnets = 34983-21E00. I couldn't get the correct part and made a repair: used the old magnet rotor and cut and drilled a new plastic part, glued them together and it works fine. I think it is important to apply a fresh coat of grease between the rotor and the axle every time the front wheel is out.

Not sure if I need the whole sensor or just that small part. I get a display and little by little my speedometer started to be a bit off until finally went completely to 0. Any advise? Great video!
@dtwalker795 жыл бұрын
Mine seemed to work fine where a few times it would drop to 0 then back up to speed. Then when it finally went I was cruising at 50 and then 0. When I took it apart I found the rotor was dust and chunks. It was a simple fix as tou can see. Whenever I do my tires I'll be more cautious around that rotor in the future.

Honestly I never noticed until I watched again. Where I live we have some major potholes. I guess they may have done some damage. Feel nothing when driving tho. May be that's what caused the sensor failure.

Hey sir im not sure if you still check these but im having a issue where my rpm gauge is not working. The speedo works just fine would replacing the speed sensor fix this issue or what should i look for
@aymanyaaqoubi555 Жыл бұрын
I did this and also had the rotor sensor broken almost exactly like yours, but even after changing it to the new one it won’t read anything on the speed gauge. I took it back out and really can’t tell why it wouldn’t be working, any suggestions?

Hi Ayman. Here's a link to video that will help to test the sensor itself. I would check that before taking the rim off to check the rotor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3i2ZH2srtiZebs

Boris Philippo I snagged mine from a dealer a few hours away who mailed it to me. But I know people who buy from Oneida on the forums and they say they are good to deal with. Here’s the link to the sensor. www.oneidasuzuki.com/store/parts-accessories/speed-sensor-sv650s-1999-2002.html

When the sensor is messed up like that, will it have a kinda of a thumping noise coming from it too?
@dtwalker7911 ай бұрын
I didn’t notice any thumping noise with mine. Was cruising and the speedo went straight to zero. Mind you I usually have music playing through the Sena so I could have missed any weird sounds, but I didn’t feel any difference.

How do you take the rotor out? I would guess it just slides out but the video cuts to it out at that part. I had mine off but I couldn’t get the thing out, mostly because I wasn’t sure how to. Great video!
@dtwalker794 жыл бұрын
It does just slide out. Mine was reduced to dust and only the center sleeve was still there.

What kind of grease did you use on the sensor rotor? And should I also grease the axle before I put it back in? If so, what kind?
@dtwalker792 жыл бұрын
I used a bearing grease I had on hand for the axle. Also put a little skim of the same grease on the sensor. I’ve seen friends use anti seize on the axles in the past without issue, but I’m messy enough without needing to turn my hands silver too lol.

I followed these steps everything went back together great but now my speedometer is saying I’m going half the actual speed like 25 is 50. I’m so confused right now
@dtwalker792 жыл бұрын
That's odd for sure. Nik de Nijs below says there are two different styles that have 4 and 8 magnets. I wonder if yours required the 8 magnets or could be a faulty rotor perhaps where two of the magnets are putting out enough magnetism? Mine originally had the 4 magnets, I'd had it apart multiple times before to know this and haven't seen an 8 magnet one yet.

@@dtwalker79 I got it figured out I bought the wrong year speed sensor
@925.andrxw32 жыл бұрын
hope i get a quick reply but how would i know if its the actual sensor wire or the actual sensor rotor you replaced. Thanks in advance
@dtwalker792 жыл бұрын
Easiest way is to pull the shaft and look at the rotor. If it doesn’t look solid with the 4 ears on it it’s the rotor. Mine was reduced to dust so it was easy to tell it was bad. I’m not sure if there’s a way to test the sensor itself.

How is the front of the bike in the air? I need a way without using stands since I don't have one

I used a ratchet strap from the rafter above to lift it up. With the rear locked into the rear lift it was pretty stable.

Same procedure to replace I believe. The second gen has a different part number. Haven’t had the chance to work on a second gen SV for this yet.
