Hello, No, you don't have to lower gas tank to change fuel pump *as long as your jeep is 02 or 03*, you can leave fuel in tank just get a long glove to access fuel pump latch to release. Didn't know there was a latch on fuel pump that's the reason had to take the fuel tank out. If you haven't done this kind of work or if you not sure how this is done please take it to your local jeep dealer/mechanic

Thanks Glenn, we know 2004 to 2006 fuel pumps are different from the 2002 to 2003. The 2002 to 2003 have Fuel Filter on top front of the tank, were in 2004 to 2006 there isn't a case. We're planning to work on 2005 Jeep Cherokee Liberty in few weeks time but i don't believe that's going to help you straightaway. I hope you find helpful video to help you in your repair.

So stupid that when a car has an access door for the top of the tank in some years of cars they make then actually take it out later... WHYYYYYYYY the reason why is it's too easy after that or whatever. Or their claim it's so expensive to make a fuel pump access door where it possibly cost them 0.0001 of a cent literal rage inducing.

That's too much work having to tear the inside of your Jeep apart for that access cover, it's much easier to drop the gas tank and replacing everything.
