That looks like a small camper, but man, three beds + shower room + cooking area + access at the front. Now that's one cozy camper van. Sure it doesn't have much room compared to a 2020 Mercedes camper truck, but this definitely has more bed. Man whoever got that van is one lucky guy.

14:35 Yikes ! That's not a 'rip' in the liner, it's where water has been leaking in from the roof seam and it's worse on the other side (18:37). The water in the plywood has dissolved the glue used to hold the vinyl on, creating a blister that subsequently cracks. You could grab the vinyl there and peel it off in big pieces because it's not stuck to the backing. It's too late now for the new owner but, if anyone sees that in a camper they're looking at, it's a project rig and should be priced accordingly. It's progressed quite a bit to get to where you can see it, but that's something you learn only through experience. If you're not prepared to open up the corner and replace the rotten wood, run away. If it's built the way North American motorhomes are, the fact that it's in the same place on both sides means it's probably from the seam where the tin roof that curves around to make the 'nose' meets the plywood roof of the coach. I get that you don't normally deal with motorhomes, but that's a deal breaker right there. Honestly, if I were the new owner seeing that for the first time in this vid, I'd be pissed. That's an expensive repair job because of the time involved.
@Peppermint1
@Peppermint1 4 жыл бұрын
These are bought off auctions, I think he even mentions in another video that's a huge risk and basically a gambling. Considering how old these are, to me such purchase is a big project. A used regular car is already a big project with a gazillion parts that can go wrong, an RV is going to add appliances, walls, roof, doors, windows, plenty of cabling, switches, ducts and accessories to the list. I guess not everyone realizes how many things can go wrong - we rather like to judge by the way it looks and by the dream of going in a trip.

When you said it was using a Toyota forklift engine, I gasped in terror that this beast might be using the same Toyota Y engine as my '87 Toyota Van (USDM townace) which is way smaller than this and can barely get out of it's own way. The US Toyota forklifts still run the 4Y engine to this day. But, I looked up the chassis number and this one appears to run a 1RZE engine, like certain older HiLux and HiAce models. Makes sense.

11:55 This video was shot in 2018 and you said the tires were 2016 and then said they were good for another 10 years making them 12 years old by the end of life but you really shouldn't be using tires past 7 years. Rubber whether you use the vehicle a lot or not will age and become hard and brittle. If you want to learn the hard way what life is worth, take chances with your tires. You only live once.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though. I found that the engine was great and more than adequate for the application. I wouldn't drive this thing much over 100 kph anyway. Even on fairly steep mountain roads in Japan, I had no trouble. That being at lower speeds of course.
