I pretty much followed this video step to step to do the job. This video is amazing. A couple of suggestions. First, remove the long bolt that holds the engine to the mount before removing the bolts that hold the mount. The bolts that hold the mount are really tight and at a small weird angle. The engine will drop a few inches if you remove the long bolt first allowing much easier access to the bolts that hold the mount. I used two jackets to do the job. One jack to support the engine when the mounts are removed and the second jack to lower and raise the transmission back into place. It was easy to position transmission back into place using this technique. Make sure to use a bunch of baggies and label everything! I had to use a small screwdriver to slowly pry the axles out of the transmission while rotating at the same time. I tried the hammer and chisel method he used on this video and the axle wouldn't come out. Keep the axle nut on until the bolt is mostly out of the wheel hub. I bent the first couple of threads on the axle bolt and the nut wouldn't go back on when I was reassembling everything. That was my biggest error. The whole job took me two full days.

Finally got round to doing my clutch replacement here in OZ and I'm in no rush to get it finished as its now the middle of summer and very hot. I wanted to know about the starter motor. From what I can see from your video, you only removed the bottom bolt from the starter motor. Is the top bolt for the starter one of those on the other side and were you still able to remove the gearbox without actually removing the starter?
@WMCS4 жыл бұрын
JPIW great to hear from your side of the world .... the starter doesn’t need to come out ... there’s just that bolt you’re referring to. It needs to come out as it goes through the bell housing. The back one doesn’t make it through. It stops on the engine block. ... Enjoy your warm /hot Christmas and hope you have a cracking new year 🥳✨🌟..

@@krikri3387 Just reading through some of the comments and noticed yours. I had a similar problem with a 1993 very late gen 5 Automatic Celica and after taking it in to Toyota, it actually turned out to be a faulty little solenoids inside the gearbox which controls the hydraulic oil flow. After they diagnosed the fault, I decided to do the repair myself which took about an hour all up and required hardly any work. There are a couple of the solenoids which are accessed by taking off the gearbox sump pan. They are held in with a 10mm bolt and a push on electrical connector. After draining the gearbox oil and removing the sump pan, I just put a 12V supply straight on to each solenoid to test if they were working or not. One clicked every time I powered it up whilst the other was completely dead. I swapped the faulty one out for a new one and the gearbox was back to full working order. Not sure if the gen 7 2000 auto box is much different but the gen 5 and gen 6 auto boxes are exactly the same. If it is that, you just need a new sump gasket and hydraulic oil as well as a new solenoid. Check out this other video for more info kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ-pd6R3hrCXi68

@xj3584 жыл бұрын
@@krikri3387 Yes, the more I think about it, mine had exactly the same problem as yours. Sometimes it would be OK which was the solenoid deciding to work for a few days but then it just stopped working and I had the problem all the time. I believe they're called Lock Up Solenoids and are widely available on ebay or elsewhere. I now have an ex UK 2005 gen 7 manual transmission which I brought with me to Australia several years ago, hence the need to now replace the clutch.

Hey Kevin is that a great or gets your working on? At the moment I’m trying to take my transmission off of my 2000 celica GTS, I’m having real trouble trying to take the back transmission mount bracket out. I got the top bolt loose but I can’t seem to get to the bottom two bolts. It’s such at a weird angle, it seems impossible. By looking at your video, I don’t know or understand how you took it off with such ease.
@shellycooper29494 жыл бұрын
Use double wrenches, one 14 millimeters open end on one end and box end on the other. Use the box end on the bolt, then take another box ended wrench and slide it over the open end of that 14 milli for twice the length on that wrench to make it a breaker bar wrench.😮 there's just enough room in there.. 😉👌 😬👍 👈😶

LMAO u got that 3 ton jack holding that motor up while you're wrestling that trans with your (gloved) bare hands.🤔 I always use the 3 ton to raise that trans straight into place, just find it's approximate center and keep it steady on the jack with one hand while u jack with the other, always do it on a smooth surface (or use a piece of plywood as a runway for the jack), and when u get it up just right, it will roll straight into place.. just give it a little twist/turn and it should pop into place enough to get a bolt or two started. Doing it this way, u can get trans in and one bolt started in less than 5 minutes, that's guaranteed as long as u remember to keep engine and trans at exactly the same angles horizontally and vertically so that the bell housing and block have the same gap all the way around.😐 Its nearly fool proof, plus u can win a lot of bets that way. I have. I'd say "I can have the trans in with at least one bolt started in 5 minutes or less". Automatics are even easier.. IT IS SO MUCH EASIER ON THE BACK, as well as the rest of the body.💟 🙄👍 🤷who woulda thunk? Lol
