I have 2 of the 2002's. They have been pretty faithful. Couple of interesting points. 1. has the lowest rolling resistance of anything from that era. 2. the battery pack is all unsprung weight.. So low that the car cannot be rolled! To get the HOV stickeres I had to take it to the dmv (who had never seen an all electric) and techs with clipboards and mirrors went all over it to see where the gasoline was hidden. One of mine was the first ever sold/leased. Has about 120000 as does the other. Love my antiques.

I have recently bought a Gen 1 RHD 5 door in the UK, Belived to be the only running example in the UK. it was origanaly an import from Japan about 10 years ago. Just giving it a 'tidy up', new tyres etc. Its only done 63K miles. Not a spec of rust anywhere. Currently doing about 60 miles on a charge, but I expect that to improve with use. My daily driver is a 21 reg Kia eNiro, range of 300 miles! Chris P. in UK (also into DeLorean's).

He drives an ancient NiMH EV as his daily driver, and uses an ancient Palm PDA, presumably in lieu of using a modern smartphone. I like this guy's style.

Indeed! The palm pilot has a program on it that allows the owner to monitor cell voltages and such.

The California Automobile Museum here in Sacramento has a gen1 too. What battery chemistry was the shown gen1's pack replaced with?

It is still using the original NiMH chemistry. As mentioned in the video, according to the owner the pack has been refurbished at least once (several of the modules were replaced due to degradation).

That's exactly what issue this customer had... It turned out that his issue was a faulty Battery Sensor ECU. Alternatively, I've heard of capacitors failing in the onboard charger unit, which could also lead to not being able to charge. I personally would recommend getting in touch with somebody at Ranger Electric Trucks LLC, as they are experts in both the Ford Ranger EV and 1st gen RAV4 EV. They can probably be of more assistance narrowing down the problem than us, but if you need us to do any work on it that is certainly a possibility.
