Pretty neat! You're right, those tripath chips are near impossible to find. That company went bottom up about 10 years ago. The first tripath chips were in a big sealed IC like that. Back when I was in university I contacted tripath once and bought a bunch of class T chips. Never did get around to using them for anything. Exactly like you said, they drive the output Fets. The ones I have are later, small SMD type.

Cool amp Big D. Learned something new today, I always thought the Tripath chips were similar to modern self-contained IC amps (TDA series, etc) Never realized there were any that were designed for such high output through basically a whole separate set of components on the board. I had a Sony theater-in-a-box that came out shortly after DVDs in the late 90s that thing had class T amps for the six channels and the amplifier section was very compact. Of course it was probably like 20 Watt per channel but it didn't seem to have a bunch of external FETs and caps to actually drive each speaker. The sound quality from that thing was way below average no matter what kind of speakers we hooked up. Easy to see why that technology kind of fizzled out.

It surprises me you, as an "old school" stereo fan don't remember Visonik from back in the day. They were anything but low end. They were the parent company for Alphasonik with the latter being their mobile audio brand. Visonik was based out of Germany (west) and made home audio speakers that were sold all around Europe. When they saw car audio blowing up they ventured into it with Alphasonik. Their original adverts were all "Alphasonik by Visonik". In the mid to late eighties Alphasonik was spun off and either sold or just allowed to run under it's own management and Visonik disassociated themselves from car audio. By the late '90s Visonik as it had been ceased to be, got bought up and originally tried making high end stuff under the ownership of one of the guys that either started Audiobahn or a relative of theirs. Stuff gets fuzzy when it's beyond your caring and at that point in time it was beyond mine.
@envisionelectronics6 жыл бұрын
madmat2001 Visonik was just a name at this point and was owned by Anaba Audio. This was sold as being a step above Audiobahn and for its day it was a genuinely powerful amplifier. Source: I was a dealer.

What Aaron said. They had already sold out at this point. I know the link between Alphasonik, Deltasonik and Visonik.

madmat2001 The Anaba group started in 1991. It was founded/owned by Sameer Abdo. This group included Anaba, Shaker, Hot Shots, Precision Audio, Thump, Striker, XS Force, Mobile Authority, Optiview, Ultra Linear, Thump, Visonik, MA Audio and Clif Designs. Sameer's brother Nasser Abo Abdo founded Investech Audio Group. Investech included Audiobahn, American Ichibahn, Ichibahn, Digital Audio, Swiss Audio, Platinum Audio, XSite Audio Group and (newer - just the name) Alphasonik
@madmat20016 жыл бұрын
Like I said, in the '90s they were under new ownership and trying to make high end stuff. It wasn't like Pyramid/Legacy/Boss grade gear. It eventually slid off that way but that's what happens under mismanagement. Kinda like Hifonics/MB Quart/Autotek today. When they were first bought out there was an effort made initially to keep the quality close to what they were, then it became just a way to make money in sizable handfuls off the cachet of the name. Sad really.

This is almost the exact same Amp as the ARC Audio ARC1500 XXK. Both made by Nikola Engineering, both with the same switches, LEDS, and features, albeit a different layout. At least the ARC model did not need to be flipped to hook up the wires, switchs were on the end with Tiffany style RCAs, and it was rated much more conservative at 1x500@2ohms/rms. Guy must be pretty young, being surprised how well this amp is built and styled because it's "way" back in 2002. Well, car amps aren't new tech, except that things like class D have become more popular and affordable these days. There were plenty of kickass designs and performers since the early 90s which would hold their own today. I remember wanting this amp and MA Audio stuff then, that would blow your mind even today, I just couldn't afford it though. But I have a 15" Visonic sub still kicking ass today. The magnet is HUGE, I don't have an amp big enough to push the thing even close to as far as it can go. Xmax ~¾ inch each way. Bought new for $180. I really miss seeing stuff like this around at surplus stores, it just suddenly stopped around here for some reason.

I need help. I had an amp just like this but it wasn't Visonik. I dont remember the brand but I want to look it up. The front plate was chrome instead of red like this. Does anyone remember another amp that had this same build style but was a different brand?

Looks like the caps released the schmooo and it took a resistor with it, neat though

The published wattage rating into 1 ohm mono should only be 1500 watts even if it doesn't reach it.

Why no 1ohm run?
@wal2 жыл бұрын
I just rewatched the vid to remind myself. The 2 ohm mono run simulates 1 ohm per channel stereo…so 964W at 2 ohms bridged = 482x2 at 1 ohm

I kept an old massive audio 25.4 i think its 100x2@2ohm top/bottom bridged & 25w @ 4ohm I was gonna give it to my dad n run 4 coaxl's jbl 6.5"s and use the top left 2 left right 2 right top only & use the bottom for the 6.5" summo sub by massive & bridge that svc4ohm on the bottom But would it be a bad idea to throw his old M/A audio TWEETERS on the front coaxl's ohm wise for that amp?

Car; rav4 Wiring; all MONSTER CABLE PC-OFC 4AWG with a big4 upgrade in same 4AWG! Alt;AutoZone Batt.;interstate L/A Direct 6 run of 8AWG stinger OFC ground/black to new battery ground already done amp running the massive audio summo fine but 50w rms under the SUBS rated was -much louder on the powerbass asa3.400.2 400watt RMS 2ch but box tuned to 34hz aero port style. 5"mdf with .75" mdf baffle manufacturers spec box sounds good but the port kept poping out so i apoxy glued instead of siliconed
