Random Audio Guy no kidding right?! have always run made in USA ever since I was 15. RF was what I've been used to. Have an old school 4 channel California amp I picked up from Trade It for like $50. All the guys there wanting the so-called 1200watt amps from there were surprised when I bridged it 2 ohms to the dual 12 subs they had as "testers". I was like you guys don't know old school class D amps. Mind you I'd rather have a different 4 ch amp, but for the front and rear speakers for the price I'm not complaining. Got a punch 150 HD series there for $25 and an 500a2 for $65. HD just crapped out on me so I got the a2. Got an estimate of $115 to repair the 150 HD, but $65 with more power is where I'll go. Just sell the 150 on ebay

Overall solid well designed class AB amps that put out rated power. Ran a Power 800 on a 3-way MB Quart passive component set up front and controlled it with a Pioneer DEX-P1R head unit. That Power 1000 was a FREAK on the birth sheet and in the truck. New to the channel. Loving your reviews. I haven't owned any enormous stereos in years now, but this makes me miss my BD1000a1 so badly. One of the best amps I ever owned. Sadly I traded it for two tripath clarions that gave me nothing but problems burning traces on the boards. I had wire bridges running all over those things before I finally scrapped them and just built a system around an Apline 9855, a few Alpine Vpower amps and all elemental designs speakers when that company was still around. The BD1000a1 paired with an Elemental Designs 16Ov2 was fantastic back in the day. Thanks for bringing back those memories.

FYI, the phase-warp is a basic time alignment device. It's intended purpose is to get every subwoofer exactly in phase so as to maximize SPL. It could also help with time alignment with the front speakers, but only if the subwoofer(s) was closer than the front speakers or if the front speakers were driven by the phase-warping amplifier. Theoretically, there shouldn't be a power difference and what you saw is likely due to inconsistencies in the potentiometer (a Rockford weakness).
@Brokendiode5 жыл бұрын
Bingo, finely someone addressed the phase control, I figured BigD had no idea what that was for, as he was adjusting it on the bench with only one amplifier running, it's for gaining amplifiers just like you said, and making sure everything is in phase four max SPL, I knew the engineer that designed that amplifier he used to work for Orion, he designed all of there amplifiers as well, these amplifiers were so amazing because he was one of us, he had an old Hurst that he had all chaired out, this is when he was still with Orion, I was trying to remember which amplifiers he had in that thing they were the red amps I think, the red amps were certified into a 1/2 ohm load. The thing that I remember most about that Hurst was that he had these two massive driver's, and to this day I have never seen another set of those they were 36" diameter and had 6" voice coils and 57lb magnets on them they were aluminum Diycast baskets carbon fiber cones, he told me that they weighed 87lb each, they were right behind the front seats, and he had to mount them so that they angled in slightly, that was the only way that they would fit across the back of that Hurst, when you sat in the front seats those things were quite intimidating, they made you feel quite small. And let me tell you they did have the power to crush you almost literally, it would blur your vision and make it so that you could could not breathe until the base note was released, ya that's probably the most powerful personally owned vehicle I have ever seen,,you could not play that thing cranked up and Cruze around, you would most definitely crash if you tried. This was a drive it to where everyone parks and get out and crank it up and wow all your friends, and piss off the neighborhood if you were any closer than a mile. That was in the 80's before cellphones and the internet, back when to hang out with a bunch of friends meant that you had to go meet some place, and the Facebook of the day was CB radio, man that was a long time ago, like the one fellow said man I'm old!!!

Aw man, I had a pair of Rockford Fosgates DVC's in the 90's. Loved them.

I still got my punch 200.2 and 400a4 from 1997. These amps don’t die.

This explains why the couple times I ran these amps. My car BANGED! almost seems like the systems I had back then are louder then now. And now I’ve got crescendo 3500 and couple batterys and all. And back then I only had 1000 watt sub amp & 4 gauge wore

+JASON JACKSON interesting. I've heard similar statements comparing Class A/B vs Class D

DOOD! this video brought me back brother. this was one of the amps everyone wanted. i went with the pioneer premier though instead i really loved the premier amps back then, would be amazing if you could find one of those! they had the reversible end caps so you could put them side by side and look slick.

I had this same amp for a while powering a set of the new p3 12 inch. Sounded amazing. Best system I ever put together. Wish I never got rid of this amp

That is for sure. The day I walked into that pawn america and seen it with a price of $125 I knew I was taking it home. The following week picked up a set of power hx2 12's for $50. Got a offer for the whole system a year later I couldn't turn down. Subs have since given up the ghost the amp is still running strong.

I still have 3 of these series amps and using them in a current build. I have 2 800a2s and a 600a4. They still play perfectly. Had another 800a2 and an 800a4 that still worked but unfortunately they were lost in a house fire. Very solid amps and surprisingly very clean.

I had a punch 500a2 of this generation pushing 4 12's in a Acura Integra hatchback and I still have people talking about how hard that setup hit loved Fosgate back then....Sundown Fan now tho!!!

My friend had a couple of these amps, they were amazing back in the day, I got an 800a2 myself, didn't need that much power, had it on 4 12" he2's in a 2 door Chevy Blazer, miss it sometimes.

Couldn't afford this back in 2000 so I settled for two 120a2's in mono @ 2ohms. Still was banging hard!!

I have the Rockford Power 1000a2 right now bridged into my JL Audio 10w7 (3-ohm load). I have to keep the gain all the way down as it's blown the driver twice now and there's no more warranty if I do it again. These old Rockford's are absolute beasts.

Love old school rockford…. The efficiency of subs back then made up for the lack of efficiency of the Class AB amps…. Love the sound quality of it

I’ve got an old punch 55.2 that looks exactly like this. I use it to run my front doors and it sounds awesome! I love it. The amp seems like it pushes way more that 55 watts x 2 channels

I've always been a fan of Rockford Fosgate. Amazing quality and a great sound. I have 2x r1200.1d now paired with 4x P3 12's and after a year of this system I'm still amazed how good it sounds! I would love to see you test the r1200.1d.

These were probably my favorite Rockford Fosgate amps. This was some of their best, and was exclusively available only at dealers early when they first were released before Rockford eventually decided to sell at Best Buy.

I know this video is old but the gain knob on these are a potentiometer so you can clean them with deoxit d5 or your choice of brand.

This amp is an absolute legend. It was way more than what I could afford but I did manage to get the 800.2 version. That amp just bumped the hell out of my JL w3's. Too bad amp's today are more like toys than actual usable equipment.
