Very good video! Thanks! Might I suggest to people if you're changing your battery NOW might be an EXCELLENT time to change your headlight high and low beams at the same time. With the battery removed now is the time to kill to birds with one stone and get your bulbs done. Just a thought.

This was a great video too- I always need a refresher every time I remove my battery. I did create a nasty bite in my wrench when I accidentally touched the positive node with it while trying to loosen the bolt on the negative node. Whoops!

Would I lose anything more than clock time and radio stations if I don't use a memory saver? I read the idle speed would be reset to 2500 and you'd have to get a pro with a diagnostic scan tool to reset it. I don't care about losing radio and clock but more important stuff would be bad.

I went to auto zone today they hooked up the memory saver and replaced the battery. then when he was done my radio is completely blank (doesn't even say radio code) and I can't lock my doors with the key remote. what went wrong???? Honda wants $125 diagnostic fee

you can call the dealership and tell them you replaced the battery and need the radio code to reset it back to normal. There's a process you press on the radio button to reset it. I'm not sure of the process. you can google it or call the dealership.

@@NutzAboutBolts The interior door controls won't lock the doors either. I can hear the door trying to lock but it won't. The only way to lock the door is to push down on the manual door locks from inside. The alarm also fails to activate.

I placed the positive first, then the negative. But when I place the negative I get sparks. I feel unsafe tightening the bolt on it. What should I do?

+TheLonleyRobot it should be fine, if you're scared, you can wear a thick glove and put it on. Just make sure not to touch any other grounds besides the battery.

I've read some people had issues when not using the memory saver. I haven't tried not using a memory saver on the Honda, but I've tried not using a memory saver on the Toyota Prius and the clock and radio station had to be rest. Honestly, if the battery is drained and died, not everyone has a memory saver on the spot to do the battery replacement. I don't think it'll be an issue with the vehicle besides the clock and radio station.

It can actually lock you out of the stereo completely as a security measure. Then you have to go through Honda to get the unlock code.

If you ever lose power, it absolutely will lock you out of your radio. Honda will give you the radio code if you visit (or maybe CALL) them. Write it in your owner's manual.

Very important. Disconnect negative first. After install reconnect positive first. If you ever short the positive to ground with the negative connected you'll get a free lesson in arc welding.

Nice video. What is the brand and cost of the memory saver? In my 2003 Accord which has had several batteries, a memory saver has never been used by AAA. It is usually a minor inconvenience resetting the radio stations but you need the code that came with the new car. Recently however I had to get the car smogged and there was not enough info in memory to get that done. I plan on replacing the battery myself this time as I am very disappointed with the AAA batteries.

+Richard Salazar I believe the brand is Duralast. I bought it at Autozone for 100$ with tax. Its a pretty nice memory saver since it doesn't use battery. I used to have the 9V battery memory saver, but those weren't reliable since you don't know when the battery will go out on you and if you're working on the car for longer, the battery will die before you can do anything. So that's why I like this memory saver more because its plugged into the outlet.

+Michael Shih it's important but not as important as the battery hold down bracket. The cover just helps keep your battery looking clean, but not necessary if it's gone. The hold down bracket keeps your battery from vibrating due to vehicle motion and save the life expectancy of the battery.

Bad advice. The battery also smooths out the alternator. You might damage expensive computers doing that.
