For anyone using this kit from Amazon (I purchased in 09/2021), the fitting for Accords of this year is actually the B fitting now. They have since changed the funnel to be smaller and the C fitting (at least in my case) plastic piece fit in fine, but you will find the metal adaptor that acts as the top of the radiator cap no longer fits. Even if you try and force it to fit (yes, I did this like a moron), it does not force the plastic part down to create a seal. Instead, the B fitting has the perfect fit now and the plastic portion has a lip on it that, when you secure the metal top, forces the plastic part down and allows the rubber to create a seal. Just wanted to update people who have purchased the kit since this video was made. Always helpful videos though, so thank you! :)

Good job showing us the procedure. It does help alot. It would be nice if honda sold kits which included all the needed parts and stuff. It would also help if the amount of coolant sold was exactly what the drain and refill needed to avoid the waste of having coolant left over which will probably be stored and lost or simply thrown away.

Two questions. #1 If you have the funnel on and waiting for the fans to kick on to remove the air, you mention you can drive around for 15-20 min to get the fans to kick on then turn on the heat. How do you do that with the funnel on. And if you put everything back together then drive around then turn on the fan how does that remove the air in the system? #2 can i turn the heat in the car on full blast while the car is running before the fans kick on? What is the negative of this?

@NutzAboutBolts

if your fan doesn't turn on, you should check your upper and lower radiator hose to see if its hot or not. If the upper hose is hot and the lower hose is cold, that means the engine is not hot enough for the fan to kick on, when the upper and lower radiator hose is hot, it means the engine is hot, the thermostat is open and the radiator fan should turn on to cool the engine down. That's when you turn the heater on so it can flow through the heater core.

Draining fluid will also drain the reservoir but only if you don't open the radiator cap while draining (the draining creates a vacuum which sucks the fluid out of the reservoir). It is probably quicker to just remove the reservoir and drain it by hand even tho those reservoirs can be in an annoying spot. It's probably a good idea to just drain it by hand and rinse it out since it is a spot for sediment to collect. The 1.5 gallons is for the whole system, not separate from the reservoir. The reservoir is just a place (edited) for fluid to go when it gets hot and expands (pressure increases) after running for a while/on a hot day/when standing still and the fan is the only thing blowing air over the radiator fins. Then when the car cools off, the reducing pressure of the system sucks some of the reservoir fluid back into the radiator. If you use the funnel as shown here, the space in the funnel acts as the reservoir - the reservoir itself won't fill (maybe a little that gets around the adapter tube) during the fill - that's why you gotta do it manually at the end, but I'd argue you don't need to fill it to the max - especially if you forget to use the heater during the fill (edited) or fill it on a particularly cold day and don't let the engine run very long while filling the radiator - but that's why they have extra space above and below the min/max lines. It's a pretty foolproof system.

Nick V well, we only recommend a flush if you have non OEM coolant in there that is causing mold in the cooling system. Marck Jerney Viernes I would recommend redoing your coolant drain and refill then. The reason your radiator fan doesn't turn on is because your engine isn't hot enough. Just make sure you're doing the job right, especially putting in the thermostat properly, or else it'll over heat if the nipple was placed in the wrong position.

+NutzAboutBolts I had this same issue. I flushed the car and filled it with distilled water to flush it. I turned the engine on and waited 15 minutes but the fan never kicked on. Also the header stopped blowing hot air. I started revving the engine a lot and engine almost over heated so I turned it off. I then burped the system and filled it with more water, and tried again. The heater worked fine, and the engine will not over heat, but the fan will not come on. The only way the radiator fan comes on is with the AC button turned on, but it only comes on for a few seconds at a time. Does this mean my radiator fan has a broken component? Do I need a new thermometer? Could my water pump be broken? Why would a fan never come on even when the engine is hot?
@NutzAboutBolts
@NutzAboutBolts 9 жыл бұрын
+theotful if you just have the engine on and running idle, it'll take 30 mins for the radiator fan to kick on. If you rev. it at 2k rpm, it'll be on in 15-20 mins, if you drive it around on freeway miles, it'll turn on 15 mins. When you turn the AC button on, that's the condenser fan, not the radiator fan. The car has 2 fans, one is the radiator to cool down the engine, the other is the condenser fan to remove heat from the A/C system.
