I originally got this done along with the differential gear oil, which explains why the number 2 skid plate is already off. Otherwise, that would be your first step. It's a straight forward process and fairly simple.
All this time I thought it's like older Lexus, like my SC400, where you only replace it at 100k miles. I've owned the truck since 64k miles, and never replaced the ATF fluid. I found out that it's supposed to be a drain and refill at least every 30k.
I bought 12 quarts of Aisin ATF Type WS from Rock Auto. It is exactly what Toyota/Lexus sells, just rebranded and half the price. I also used a $7 Harbor Freight transfer pump.
Checking the ATF temperature also takes practice and patience to get right. Just keep trying if it doesn't activate the check temp mode, by the time you get it right it's already reached operating temperature.

Can you add in the text a step by step of this. I was following okay until I saw the bucket being filled....Then I was like ....wait what is happening now...?

No! 29 ftlb is not the drain plug torque. It is the fill plug torque. Drain plug is 16 according to some sources. I now have stripped threads and get to replace the entire pan. I watched several videos and read several forum trails and felt confident. What I didn't do is check the toques with 3 different sources. Usually do. My Bad. By the time I stopped because it seemed awful tight for a drain bolt it was to late. So...i ordered a new pan. Good times. It is possible that a loose metallic sliver got trapped in the threads. So I'll float that out there.

So you drained the pan, tightened the drain bolt, measured what came out of the pan and then put that amount back into the transmission, but instead of putting back the hose you originally took off, you pointed it down into a bucket and started the car to let more fluid come out? And then you pumped that same amount of fluid back in until its pink in color, fished the transmission hose back out from the bucket and then reattached it back to the original position and then drove the car around until the trans was up to temp and checked the level with the overfill bolt on the bottom?

My understanding is, you just turn the key to the on position, DO NOT START IT. When the key is in the on position the fluid will slowly come out. If you started the truck, fluid would go absolutely everywhere.

After getting A/T fluid to operating temp, do you turn the engine off or leave it running when removing the overflow bolt to set correct fluid level? Thanks in advance
@OrganizedGarageStatus
@OrganizedGarageStatus 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. You'll need to remove the overflow plug, let it run until it's just dripping, but don't wait for the fluid to completely stop.

@@OrganizedGarageStatus I think he is asking if you leave the engine running - in which case yes. Check the "running" level when the fluid is at the correct temperature.

Instead of pumping ATF through feeding line to radiator, can you pump the ATF through the transmission return line? I'm just confused thanks in advance.
@haywardkong1213

That's what I thought to the return line and you forgot to replace the filter.

So did you ad a hose to the ATF Feed Line to dump into that discharge bucket?
@OrganizedGarageStatus
@OrganizedGarageStatus 5 жыл бұрын
The ATF line was long enough to run down towards the bucket.

Great video. this is what I was looking for. you mentioned you bought 12 quart of the fluid did you pump in 4 quarts each time in the ATF feed line to radiator and then start the engine?
@OrganizedGarageStatus
@OrganizedGarageStatus 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. You have to start the engine for it to circulate the ATF in the system, and therefore dump it out.

Will it work if I drain the pan, close it, take line from the radiator and drain it all by turning the car on, then refill?

You'll run the transmission dry. Might as well replace the whole thing. Lol

hi dump it out by removing the drain bolt? Also Is a scangauge will work with this procedure to check the ATF temperature so I don't have to use wires to activate it? Appreciate your input
@OrganizedGarageStatus
@OrganizedGarageStatus 5 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. You can also use Scangauge. You can search up on Club Lexus that process.
