2003-2009 Lexus GX470 FRONT DOOR REMOVAL AND SPEAKER UPGRADE - WAY MORE BASS!!

Upgrading the front door speakers with Kicker CS series component speakers.
The speakers are 4 ohm and come with crossovers and tweeters but I leave those out for this install. Only utilizing the 6x9 mid bass driver. I used speaker adaptor plates found on amazon.

Some people say not to use 4ohm speakers but it’s fine. The amps have built in overload and if the get too hot they will shut off. Which will happen off you play you stereo on full blast with bass turned all the way up. But most people never do that. I play the shit out of it on high volume 90% of the time and don’t have any issues. I have been doing this to Lexus LS and GX’s for the last 15 years withou issue. That being said I only keep a car for a year or two tops.
But I buy GX’s often enough this will be my go to fix for the fron speakers

My current stereo is all factory amps with kicker front door drivers and a kicker 6 3/4” sub in the back. All 4 ohm. And factory 8 ohm for the rest and it sounds fantastic.

@@withmatt6327 No I didn’t. Just the plastic brackets he shows in this video and the kickers plug right in. I kept and reused the factory speaker screws/washers

Thank you for your video. My speakers are toast and was skeptical about taking the door panel off. Looks pretty much like click to go. You put new software in for your screen for the speakers too. Love to see how you do that too.

I replaced mine with Infinity Kappa Series 6x9 and tweeter. Also Infinity Kappa perfect midrange. It sounds incredible. Still need a larger sub for deeper bass. Im considering Kicker downfiring 12" for rear compartment

Have you tried replacing the Midrange door speakers (2.75")? It seems like the Kicker KSC270 would be a good choice.

Would it matter if I got kicker 3-way 6x9 speakers instead of this 2-way? What harness did you use? I can't seem to find one that fits the gx470.

You want to get a component speaker. There was a mid bass driver there before so best to replace with that. When you buy a component set you won’t end up using the tweeters but you will get much better sound

Great video. I've always read that the GX470 stock sound system was an 8 ohm system therefore you couldn't use 4 ohm speakers because they'll blow. Does that mean you are running an aftermarket amp or using the same amp?

The Mark Levison system is 8 ohm. Pioneer/JBL stock amps are 4 ohm

Can you use the previous bracket? Or do you have to get that separated adapter ? Also is it hard to wire the speaker up? When you were wiring them up on 6:35

You have to get new adaptor plate if you using these kicker speakers. The factory holes don’t line up. But I’m pretty sure if you went with focal brand components instead that you don’t need the adaptor plate. The focal are supposed to have same mounting bolt pattern. The speaker wiring is very easy but the connectors are kinda flimsy on the kicker speaker so it just required being delicate while holding the speaker back plate to make the connection safely.

Thanks for doing this video. I noticed the speaker you are using is 4 ohms vs the factory 8 ohm speaker, have you had any issues?

No isssues unless you turn it up full bass and turn volume all the way up as well. The amps will get hot and shut off. They have a anti overload shutoff so you won’t hurt them. They turn. Back on in 15 seconds or something. You would never want to run your stereo like that anyway. I listen to the bass half way up and still max out the volume no problem. Bass is substantially louder than stock so halfway is loud. I have don’t this to multiple Lexus Over the years and no issues doing this. I did a 4 ohm kicker sub instal as well if you chem my other video

@@jimmyonechains8888 you need 8 ohm speakers. Your amp luckily has a shut off to prevent damage but your speakers are drawing too much current

so those 6x9" speakers are components?? you just didn't utilize the cross over or tweeters correct?? i was wondering if it would sound good it you did that with the mark levingson factory system. sometimes, when you swap with other speakers that are not subs or mid bass speakers it will sound like crap. but yours are mid-bass/sub 6x9's so i guess thats why the sounded good.

Did you by chance modify or cut back the lip on the door panel that is in the shape of the 6 by 9? It's a very thin plastic that's kind of sharp and it seemed like it made contact with the original bracket on the plastic part but while installing my new infinity speakers it almost seems like the whole speaker enters that casing and it stopped by the lip twitch presses on the foam surround at the base. Let me know I'm on the fence about what to do I guess I should cut it back for safety. Also did you not add a gasket to the back of the Metro amount that makes contact with the door? I installed my first one passenger side without it but then I realize there actually is a gasket on the original and it did seem like I was getting some rattle without it. That said I will probably go back and take the speaker out and add it so it's not plastic directly on metal door.

I believe he has a newer gx470 which comes with aux port from the factory. Sadly our 04 gx470 doesn't have that!

I’m considering getting the Simply Speakers re-foam kit for my ML setup, but I’d rather spend the $ and get better speakers. I thought there might be a way to convert decent speakers to 8ohm or something.

Do the refoam kit. It’s the best sounding fix imo. Kicker is second best fix. Slightly more bass but you will have to adjust the bass levels more often when changing between genres of music

It’s the same thing with an 06. I believe the non-ML have 4ohm speakers and even easier to replace becouse more options available

Do you have any issues with bass rattle? I also have a 2007 premium and my window switches/ door handles rattle to no avail. Ive tried felt tape which helped very little... Did you have a similar problem/ solution?

I didn’t have much rattle unless really turning itnup. But you could use sound dampening adhesive backed foam and take the door apart and apply everywhere you can especially around the speaker housing
