Thank you for the excellent video with exactly the right amount of detail to describe how to do the work while not wasting any time. Anybody have a recommendation for hardware to replace the factory CD cassette player in a 2005 4Runner with the 10 speaker JBL Synthesis (which sounds good!), while adding a rear backup camera, Bluetooth audio, front and rear digital video dash recording, FM radio and hopefully an MP3 player while retaining steering wheel controls? Bonus points if it's an Android based touch screen so I can add the OSMand app for GPS navigation and an app to allow me to view diagnostic data from a Bluetooth OBDII dongle.

Best 4runner tutorial on KZbin! Thanks, Provo Beast! My 4runner has the JBL and I used the PAC RP4.2-TY11, which was QUITE a pain ...for anyone in the same boat; the blue/white "input" and the blue/white "output" are wired together along with the amp turn-on from the radio harness, there are MANY connectors on the PAC harness that aren't used, the 12 pin connector behind the dash with only 3 wires (red, green & pink) doesn't get used, and, be prepared to get clever finding a spot for the huge rats nest of wires. Give a wave to Timpanogos for me, and thanks again!

@@truthfadeaway WOW! It's been a while, but if I interpret my own instructions correctly, it's actually 5 wires connected (the 4 blue and whites from the PAC harness AND the amp signal from the radio). You were right on! Thanks for your prompt reply, I purchased the TYTO harness locally and paid more but I couldn't wait due to a road trip in two days - after install no issues with harness fit. One issue still - the back up camera in your video was not available so I chose one similar. The wiring therefore was not exactly as in your video, a single video cord went from camera to HU, and the only other cord was a power cord that I spliced into back up light cluster. Figured the camera would get power when the reverse lights came on. I cannot get the image to come up on the HU - should I run a second wire from the HU to the power/backup camera junction? Any suggestions? Light green parking brake wire is not connected (didn't know where to wire it in) yet it does appear that the bypass it working, a video still plays when car is shifted out of P to R or Drive. Thank you for your assistance combined with your excellent videos I now have the HU I always wanted in time for a sweet road trip. Won't have to untangle myself from the wires that used to run from the triple cig lighter adapter all over the cabin to the electronic devices. You rock!
@ProvoBeastAudio7 жыл бұрын
Make sure your camera is getting power and ground, either from the reverse light or the red and black wire in the radio harness. Make sure the radio's reverse gear trigger wire is also hooked into that reverse light power, or a source that is hot when in reverse. I would check your connections.
@SK-pf8qn7 жыл бұрын
Here's the wrap up. I ran a wire from the connection of the reverse light (which powered the back up camera) to the purple wire in the TYTO harness - as you say in your video. Still couldn't get a picture - took my 4Runner to an audio shop where they told me I just hadn't accessed the correct menu on the HU to turn on the camera. So the connections were correct and now that the camera is turned on in the HU it works perfectly! You guys rock. Secondly, my RDO radio needed the TYTO harness and once installed did not provide for using the steering wheel controls. I purchased an ASWC module from the same audio shop - connected the red, black and white wires - but got no sound and the controls didn't work. During the same visit to audio shop where they corrected the camera issue they rewired the module - I had not wired the green, orange and another color that were in the harness but the instructions didn't mention those wires and their connections. Bottom line: with less than an hour's help from the audio shop you guys were able to coach me through putting in all the items I wanted to make my 4Runner like new. My wife loves being able to watch a DVD while we drive on our road trips. Thank you so much for your videos and for responding to my questions to help me along the way, I hope that my stutter steps can help others too. Thank you!!

The Aux is already wired into the Crux harness, you don't need to plug it in. The Red / White RCA male ends will connect into your aftermarket radio's aux input. This retains the factory aux input in your toyota and makes it accessible on your radio's aux setting.

Yes, if that is the only orange wire on the crux harness, you will tie that to the orange white wire of the pioneer. The yellow / black is a mute, it won't be used so just cap it off. The blue wire (for power antenna) can just tie into either the blue / white wire of the radio, or the red (ignition) wire of the radio.

Awesome Video Man. Just bought a 4200NEX and excited to get it in. Can you clarify where the aux stereo connectors are and on which harness? and how the y splitter in the back of the stereo keeps factory aux jack location? Is that part of the Idata Maestro integration, as I didn't buy one. If it is the maestro, do you get engine and tpms readouts on the head unit with that? Thx.
@ProvoBeastAudio7 жыл бұрын
We didn't choose the idatalink Maestro, just the Crux harness. If you check the description, we listed all we used there. The Crux harness we used retains the factory aux port in the center console, and the harness has two RCA male jacks from that factory aux. We used the RCA Female to 3.5mm Male adapter to plug into the rear aux input on the back of the new Pioneer. The idatalink Maestro would integrate the data readouts from the vehicle on the screen, if your model year 4runner is compatible.

@AillerySimon7 жыл бұрын
(please correct me if I'm wrong) Your stock HeadUnit has 2 antenna plugs at the back, which You can see on the video, when the head unit is pulled out. Therefore, you also have two antenna wires, which you can see hanging, wrapped into foam, at 9:15 in the video. According to what I've read, the stock HeadUnit is able to determine which antenna has the strongest signal and uses that one (never both at the same time to avoid interferences). As the Pioneer headunits only have one antenna plug at the back, ProvoBeast recommends to use only the bigger antenna wire. I am currently preparing the installation of a Pioneer AVIC-7200-NEX with a backup camera on my 07 Toyota 4runner, that's why I did ask myself the same questions, I don't want to be stuck in the middle of the installation, whereas the dashboard is in pieces. =>Thank you sooo much to ProvoBeast for all these videos, I am now pretty confident with the wiring and the installation :)

I just upgraded my 4th gen and was wondering the same thing. I only had one input for an antenna on my new Sony XAV-AX100, but I believe I have two antenna cables. Did you ever figure this out?
@wilburhooks66917 жыл бұрын
Great video. Will this same set up and equipment work for a 4th gen with jbl synthesis?
@ProvoBeastAudio7 жыл бұрын
The install will be very similar, however you will need a different wiring harness adapter. Use the vehicle fit guide and get 5% discount on all car audio items at www.sonicelectronix.com with coupon code ProvoBeast at Checkout.

To verify, just go to their website and use their fit guide to ensure you get the right harness for your trim level.

will this work on base model where the steering wheel does not have volume controls?
@ProvoBeastAudio4 жыл бұрын
Yep, and rather than using the Crux adapter, just use the Metra 70-1761 since you do not have steering wheel volume controls.

Awesome video, just finished my non-JBL to a Pioneer NEX installation. Could not have done it without your video!! 1 question though. When I removed my stock radio, I unplugged 4 harnesses from the rear. My 61s harness only had 3 harnesses to plug back in. I reviewed your video and it appears you unplugged 4 also. What did you do with and what is the 4th one for? Everything seams to be working ok though. Thanks!!

I wired my pioneer521ex radio the same way to my 2005 4Runner with out jbl with the crux swrty 61s and I am not getting any power for it to turn on. do I have to run the red and yellow wire together?
@ProvoBeastAudio3 жыл бұрын
No, sounds like you have a blown fuse. Use a multi meter to see if you have constant 12v at the yellow, accessory on red, and check your ground. Wiring the yellow and red together will reset the radio each time you power down the radio. Check the fuse box.
@te72garage3 жыл бұрын
@@ProvoBeastAudio I check all fuses that go to the radio and they are good.

Also used the same crux harness and the steering wheel controls are not working I wired up the red and yellow for now to see if the steering wheel controls work as well and they don’t think I have a bad crux harness box

Very very helpfull... Now it is 2018 and I want to install a AVH2300 NEXT pioneer due I have android and also several advantages it offers... Can I use the same set up for the AVH 2300? Does the interface used on this video would work fine with my new stereo? Thanks
@ProvoBeastAudio6 жыл бұрын
Yep, the same parts used in this video will work just fine for the 2300! In fact, if you are swapping pioneers, they may even have the same harness.

Great video! Provo Beast...what radio would you recommend now for a 2007 4Runner? Is there a newer model of the Pioneer you installed? I want a back-up camera as well. Thanks!

THe AVH-1400NEX is the newest version of this radio, a great choice too.(Apple Carplay compatible).

Your videos are insanely helpful, very much appreciated!!! I installed the backup camera just like you showed; however, when I put the gear in reverse, the deck screen changes to the camera view and its a black screen saying that the image might be reversed and it wont show video from the camera. The light that is apart of the camera is on so there is power going to the camera. Do you have any troubleshooting ideas perhaps??
@ProvoBeastAudio7 жыл бұрын
There are two different power sources. The power to the light for the license plate, and the power to the camera. The power to the camera needs to be either connected to the reverse light power, or a switched source thats on when the key is in.

I am trying to buy the dash kit that you used for my own 2001 Highlander and I was wondering exactly how wide are those dash kit pieces together?
@ProvoBeastAudio7 жыл бұрын
You need to use the factory brackets that hold the original radio, and these brackets from Metra also screw onto those brackets. The instructions that metra sends with the kit walk you through the installation process.
@action_JB7 жыл бұрын
I have the original brackets but the head unit in my car is 7.75 in. wide and the aftermarket head unit I'm purchasing is only 7 in. wide. My question is, what is the width of the plastic pieces that come with the Metra 95-8202? I am asking this so that I know if buying this dash kit is right for me.
@ProvoBeastAudio7 жыл бұрын
I show that the kit fits your car fine for a double din.
@action_JB7 жыл бұрын
OK thanks. I was unaware that Double Din was a standard size.

BEFORE you go unplugging anything, disconnect your battery and make sure you plug everything back in before reconnecting the battery. Test your new radio is step #1, using a 12v drill battery or leads off your car battery.
@kurt13kurt137 жыл бұрын
This video inspired me to buy and install an aftermarket unit for the this time. Before I order parts, is there anything different about an install if I have the JBL upgraded sound already? I watched your amp/sub install video. Will the factory amp have the same connections you installed in that video? Thanks!
@ProvoBeastAudio7 жыл бұрын
The JBL system will require a different wiring harness but the dash kit will be the same. It all depends on your year 4runner so i would head over to www.sonicelectronix.com and use their vehicle fit guide to see what exactly you will need.

i need help, for the center dash piece with A/C and passenger light i unplugged it entirely (negative battery disconnected) and put it back together turning back on the negative battery, was that bad? should i have left the piece plugged in the whole time?

No, what was the issue?
@nickgiles82414 жыл бұрын
You should have added you need a y connector for antenna...factory harness has 2 antenna plugs coming off it and the head unit only has one spot for antenna

I install a similar stereo, but the steering wheel controls aren't working. where did you plug it in at?
@ProvoBeastAudio8 жыл бұрын
What radio did you install? You need to plug the steering wheel control adapter into the wired remote (W/R) input on the rear of the vehicle. If it happens to be a Kenwood or JVC, that wire to be connected is found in the harness.
