You can tell how much lighter the cars were back then, darting around like houseflies, that's one of the main things I miss, made it look so much faster.

And they looked so hard to drive, every single lap was at the absolute limit and even tiny mistakes were punished. I find it so enjoyable to watch these 2003 cars just go around the track, even without overtaking. Compare that to those ocean tankers on rails we got today and it just doesn't seem as right as it does here. I know that the racing in the 2000s was bad and that there are things that we can't/shouldn't change back. (Refuelling, safety measures, ...) But there has got to be a way to make the cars smaller, more nimble and harder to drive without compromising safety.

@@dez8685 - I see your point and I know it always is a matter of nostalgia. But just looking at 2000s onboards and comparing them to the current ones is a huge difference imo. I think making the cars a bit harder to drive would benefit the sport massively. These cars have too much downforce imo, we barely have any high speed corners that aren't flat-out...

@@ludwigrohrig Indycar went for less downforce, harder to drive cars one or two years ago and I would say, even though racing has not always been super close, that it has been more exciting to watch. Those cars can actually race and pass on street courses.

they were in fact faster on straights, but the electric engine in modern cars allows for a greater acceleration, and nowadays' knowledge of aerodynamics allow for greater downforce on corners

The Dude824 Germany 2000 was great, but I feel this win had more merit to it than the one in Germany. At Silverstone 2003, there was no one on track who was quicker than Rubens. Rubens himself considers this one his best win. Either way, both were spectacular performances

Very well said. Mclaren and Williams were equaled if not better than Ferrari’s in those years. Mercedes was competeable just in 2017,2018 and 2021. 2014-2016 and 2019-2020 was 5 years of the biggest dominance in F1.

They had an updated 2002 car - Ferrari had the best chassis, Williams close to McLaren in terms of chassis, but overall the McLaren was far slower as a package, including Mercedes power. A distant third quickest car - flattered by the great Kimi Raikkonen of course. Coulthard was absolutely nowhere as was Paffett in testing.

Faster not just in the straights .. Tracks had Faster Corner profiles, LESS MARBLES too. Check out these corners starting at 5:35, DC ends up overtaking on the outside. Cars didn't stick merely to the pure racing line back then.. now it's all preserve as much as you can and therefore any marbles that do build up are not cleared, but are too large to the point they are detrimental to competitive racing these days

Rubens said in an interveiw that he was in charge of most setup and tyre choices since he arrived at Ferrari, and in that particular weekend he noticed that a certain compound suited him better than Michael, so he made the call in favor of himself and it paid work. Ross Brawn found out about that later and since then things changed at Ferrari.

why? This is one of better changes, wellington straight provided many awesome actions. Old layout in that part was just some mid speed corners. Go complain about hockenheim or osterreichring

The old Barcelona and Spa layout would be nice too, also they should take out the turn 6 in Abu Dhabi and the chicane in Paul Ricard.

This In My Opinion Is one of the Greatest Grand Prix of All Time,The Fantastic Overtaking and Wheel to Wheel Racing was Just Fantastic and such great Competition with the Ferrari’s,Williams,Mclarens,Renault they were all so Equal. Just a Fantastic Grand Prix.👍👍👍

@@michaelrussell3890 The marathon he interfered with was the 2004 Olympics. Crazy to think he did that not once but twice, unless I'm missing other instances.

Kimi and Montoya, they were beasts. Rubens had probably the best race here, after the one in the old Hockenheim in 2000.
