Quote from Jeff Gordon's auto-bio, "I first met Junior at a racetrack when he was practicing in a piece of junk that I couldn't believe they allowed on the racetrack, I went up to Dale Sr. and said, 'hey, whats that all about?' He said, 'I'm not gonna give him the best equipment because hes my son, hes gonna have to earn it if he wants it.'" If you want spoiled, there is a man named Steven Wallace.

This shows how far ahead Jr was on side drafting. He was doing it the whole time once he jumped to the outside of Wallace, yet you never heard DW or Larry mention it once. They thought they knew it all when it came to plate racing and Jr made them look really dumb in retrospect. Of course he probably had a few chats about it over his first years in racing with the master at this drafting game.

Funny coincidence, here. Dale Jr. wins the Bud Shootout in 2003, wins the Daytona 500 the next year. Jimmie Johnson wins the Bud Shootout in 2005, wins the Daytona 500 the next year. Ironically, both of them happened first on Fox, and then on NBC.
@xxCrazyEights88xx5 жыл бұрын
Just look at what Jr does on the last lap. Gordon lays back to try and get a run and he moves up the track in turn 2 to get them to catch up, because there is no way they’d make a pass on the outside in the corner. Then he goes low on the backstretch to prevent Gordon from sucking up to him too much. Just the little things like that made it so hard to pass him when he got the lead.
