Finals rehearsal got rained out in Orlando so we had a standstill inside the last day. Here's the hornline playing the end of Malaguena.

There was nothing better than playing inside after playing outside all summer. The instructors always told us to bring the volume back a couple of notches even though they knew it was never going to happen.

What's the secret to hitting high notes, you ask? ....Pelvic Thrust.

bigntasty43 I will say, I don’t blame them. I do it too without thinking about it, band director always gets confused because he thinks I’m gonna pass out 😂

Revisiting this. I was there. If anyone ever doubts how loud these guys were in person on the field, put them inside and let the animals run loose!!!

in my experience trying to cleanly end a high note by just stopping air is really hard. But if u pull away form ur mouth it just stops and cleanly ends the note. they wear gloves because alot of times they do alot of hand maneuvers if i am thinking right, and wearing gloves takes sweat out of the equation and the chance of launching your horn half across the field or room.

Mostly it is to look cool. But, there is a certain type of release that it gives you that is pretty hard to get any other way. If you have the range, try it.

I know what you're getting at and see where you're coming from. Here's another side of it, without trying to be so prissy and legit. Ripping the horn off is mostly showmanship. However, it does serve a purpose for a certain type of release when taking things up. You should try it sometime. This rehearsal was 1/250 indoors. The gloves are always worn to prevent sweat and residue from destroying the instruments. We're lucky to all be provided Xenos and we want to keep them in good condition.
