The heavy wire cable loom shown at 8:29 was not removable from my truck (unless I would have removed the steering column). I ended up mangling it up far beyond it's intended shape to get it out, then used this video as a guide for how to route the cable through it, and then unmangling it as best I could in the truck to to get it re-installed. It works. Thank you for the help.

Thank you! Just successfully finished the job, and it works! BTW, thank you for showing us the actual failed section of cable! Super helpful to see. In my case, my 2001 Tahoe would not go into Park. Everything else worked, R,N,D,L2,L1, 4Hi, 4Lo. Turned out the shift cable just before the bellows and the trans selector lever had failed. There was a black plastic encasement cylinder piece that keeps the cable on the straight and narrow, and instead of being maybe 6 inches long, that junky plastic cylinder had broken off and the remaining stub was 2 inches long. The broken piece was about a foot away from the selector lever, just before the bellows. I thought I could just replace that half of the cable, but NOOOO.... the cable connectors were different on the original cable than on the replacement cable I got. So I had to replace both halves.

Thanks for filming, good stuff! I have just bought an 02 yukon that has an extra shift cable standoff,(it looks like a thick coat hanger with some wild bends), that is right by the steering knuckle u joint that wasn't attached to anything on the bottom made the cable rub on the brake plunger rod going into the master cylinder I've looked all over to find a picture of how it goes,but no joy.

I'm pulling mine out now. I have everything loose but the spring support that wraps around the cable under the steering column. I was having trouble figuring out the bolt size, but you said 10mm so I will try that next. I was trying 1/2 in, 13 mm, and 7/16 but no dice. The old cable is worn and frayed just above the boot where it goes through the floor. I will keep on keepin' on. Thanks for the 10mm information. 🙂

Thanks for showing the rerouting of the trans cable. The last personal that replaced it put it in the wrong position hence so did we and the output shaft of the transfer case chewed it up. Now I have to replace it again.😒😒
@olmrmonster5806 жыл бұрын
When I replaced my shift cable I rerouted the cable a different way under the dash. I made sure that it would not interfere with any moving parts. It was a lot easier that way. The one under the truck was easy lol. Mine cost me $85

The metal rod that you find behind the brake pedal an swirls is factory made. It's holds it in place as well as keeps it from twisting or binding, which cause it to break or kink in end if not used..

How do you adjust the length where the two cables meet? My 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will NOT go into park all the time and I cannot remove the key. I have to shift it in and out several times before I can take the key out. I have yet to find a video that shows this. Thanks.
@Broncocarl927 жыл бұрын
From what I understand there is no "adjustment" at the center point, the springs that are there are to allow you to connect the two halves and then once released the cable is adjusted. If you are having problems I would say your cable is failing and needs to be replaced.
@juans66397 жыл бұрын
Broncocarl92 Thanks. I will try it tomorrow when the temperature is supposed to climb over 30° and the wind dies down. If that doesn't fix it, Can I assume that the cable might need replacement?
@sherwoodmaxwell75096 жыл бұрын
Where the 2 cables connect there is an adjustment
@MaxDoody5 жыл бұрын
It is adjustable. Where the two cables meet. You pull back the white cover, lift up on that clip then you can adjust the cable length in or out, once set, you lo kit in place with the clip then put white cover back in place.

I have a 2003 chevy 2500 2wd 6.0l with 127k and it had a rough idle and was slipping in first and would stall sometimes. I fixed the idle by cleaning out my throttle body and maf sensor. Than took it on a test drive, now i have no slipping in first. But i lost reverse and it drives in nuetral. I have done nothing to transmission only fixed the idle. I have zero codes popping up, and im at a complete loss of what could have happened. Any ideas would be appreciated

@@Broncocarl92Not currently, just a check engine one that pops no codes. I do have a foxwell nt6244 that should be here on the 23rd that is supposed to be a all systems reader. It starts in park and neutral and reverse lights come on when in reverse but it does reverse it almost want to go forward but doesnt. Everybody is ruining the bracket on the steering column if you take the Vault out if in route to cable through their easier without breaking it cable back into the bracket properly it is a little difficult main thing is don't use a Pioneer products cable ATP and Pioneer are the same company the cables are sloppy you will have at least a half a year of slop in the cable if you use their product by an ACDelco or you'll be sorry
