2003 Ford Escape Power Steering Pump & High Pressure Line

This escape was leaking a long time and had a bad line and other issues.

Thanks for a very detailed video. I only needed to replace the high pressure line to rack and pinion so I don't have to remove the power steering pump. I was thinking I had to but I will save your video as a good reference. My Escape is also a 2003.

Thanks, made my job easier. To hold the pulley I used the rotafix method: I used an old serpentine belt, loop one end around the ac, or you could use the crankshaft, and loop the other around the ps pulley. Then grab the far side of the serpentine belt, pinch it back on itself, like a hairpin, then tuck and roll it up under the power steering pulley until the near side of the belt goes over it. Keep cranking until all the slack is out of the belt and it locks up tight. Search "rotafix cog" to see the concept using bicycle chain. Took a heck of a lot of torque to loosen that sucker.

I replaced the tensioner as well as pump and bought a new belt as well. I think the hardest part of this job is getting the new belt on.

hi, do you happen to know the part number or supplier of the pipe on the top of the power steering pump that was cross threaded and rounded off at all? mine is leaking but cant find the part anywhere

That is just called a high pressure power steering hose any parts store should be able to look it up for you in a few minutes and get you one

Does anyone know anything about the ac line? we are worried it would need to be regassed if tampered with?

I have an 03 escape v6. I replaced the power steering pump but now the steering wheel is hard to turn. While the car is on the ground. But when the car is up in the air. You can turn the steering wheel with one finger. I bled the system.

Sounds like either you got a bad new pump or you have a issue with your rack

So my wifes 05 2.3l escape is leaking from the electronic connector of the power steering pressure sensor... It's right under the left intake manifold line so I can't even get a wrench or anything on it to take it out.

Sounds like a pain in the ass. Maybe you can take it loose from one end and get it up high enough to work on it

@@HooptiesGarage I ended up taking the serpentine belt off and the corner plastic panel and had to remove the pump halfway then I was able to get to the sensor. It was not fun.

I would remove battery from the workbench until the work is done.

Just depends on the labor rate and how much they mark up parts etc. I usually charge around $340-400 if everything goes as planned and there's no issues with the pump etc

In my 2003, the transmission stick says Mercon. Not V, or LV. What fluid do you use?

I usually use the newer stuff it's just an updated version of the older mercron.
