for anyone struggling like I was...I had a totally dry loop, like bone dry...if you're car is up on stands in the front (ie titled up), this wont work well....I got maybe 1/2 gallon into the system this way, then I pulled the top hose going to the res and was able to put nearly 1.5 gallons in through there. Not all at once, fill it, let it bubble out, repeat. Pumping the hose the way this gentlemen did also helps in this method. Finally I got the system primed, coolant started moving, engine temp dropped & heat came through the cabin vents...all good now.

🔧🔩🏆 I must have watched 10 how-to videos about changing coolant, flushing, and such. This one is the best. For those disliking it I imagine they can't read and are frustrated. It's easy to follow if you can read. No distracting music, either, which was a huge plus. This video is especially useful for Ford and Mazda cars with the closed coolant system and no traditional radiator cap.

I followed your excellent video on how to replace the water pump, then this one. First. very little coolant came out of the system, about half gallon, tops. I thought it had just leaked out. But when I went to add coolant (according to this video), very little went in. Let the car run for 10 minutes, no warm air came into the cabin, and the coolant never went down. I drained the radiator and very little came out. Now, pouring coolant into the reservoir, it is not flowing into radiator, just sitting there. Any suggestions on what the cause may be?
@GreaseMonkeyFever3 жыл бұрын
Yes, do a backfill. Pull the top radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Hold the open end up and pour coolant down the hose until the radiator is full and coolant starts running out of the hose. Return the hose to the thermostat housing and clamp. It's a little messy, but the quickest way to get coolant into the radiator. Then do the rest of the fill through the reservoir. Make sure the engine is running while doing the last fill in the reservoir.

My 2001 Ford Escape started leaking coolant directly below it from underneath the car. Any ideas what it might be before I take it in for a check? I believe a hose was replaced only two years ago for the same thing as well.
@bradley84204 жыл бұрын
Could be leaking at the hise again even if unlikely. If you have no undercarriage shielding then debris from the road could hurt the line. Bad mating of the rubber hose on a fitting such as corrosion or deep scratches from tools or a loose clamp could allow a leak. A bad plug or plug seal on the radiator drain could cause a leak. Then there are propietary Ford parts. If you can see the leak and take a picture someone can probably direct you to the right parts. You can do it if you look at coolant parts at sites like rockauto or ford suppliers and match/replace the leaky parts. Can't do much without more information.
@bradley84204 жыл бұрын
@Agent Fungus Straight water...? Are you certain it is not water from your car's ac condensate? Exhaust coils when cooling your car pull condensate from the air. It is super noticable when it is humid out.
@bradley84204 жыл бұрын
@Agent Fungus well ac condensate would just be clean pure water, but if the ac was never turned on the there would be no condensate so must he something else. Even without rain an ac unit will create condensate.
@vikingcove4 жыл бұрын
@Agent Fungus When you turn your defroster on, that uses the a/c, and forms condensate water that drains to puddle -- normal and no problem. Did you possibly have your defroster on?
@vikingcove4 жыл бұрын
@Agent Fungus It might be worthwhile, to avoid some future worry, to run your car with a/c or defrost on for a while, then pull into driveway over piece of cardboard, so you can identify exactly where the condensation drain is. Perhaps put a glass bowl under there to collect some, to reassure yourself. My Escape is dirty, so I'd not be surprised to see some dirt/oil drop also.

@michaela61564 жыл бұрын
I had a problem like that with my 2011 Escape v6; coolant level was gradually dropping over time but I didn’t see any leaks. Then I noticed that coolant was leaking from where the thin hose at the bottom of the reservoir clamps onto the reservoir, so maybe you overlooked that. If there’s no leak there, you might need to pressure test your radiator and see if there are any pinhole leaks.
@williamroldan74994 жыл бұрын
what if you already brought a new radiator it trows the whole water in the lil hose and has alot of pressure in my Hoses
@TheWarjunkie6663 жыл бұрын
lol little late to the party, but usually if you keep loosing coolant and can't find a leak there's a good chance it's being burnt in the combustion chamber due to a faulty headgasket or warped head from being too hot.
@MrFPilati6 жыл бұрын
Does the coolant need to be diluted with water? 50/50?
@thesteezylifeofdrew6 жыл бұрын
depends on the type of coolant you buy. if you purchase 50/50 coolant, then it is already diluted and you don't have to add water. If you purchase concentrated anti-freeze then you need to dilute it yourself. 50/50 coolant is a little bit more expensive but saves you a headache. If you are diluting the coolant yourself by adding water, make sure you only use distilled water. Tap water can contain additives that will damage the components of your vehicle.

What coolant should I purchase for my 2006 Ford Escape?
@GreaseMonkeyFever4 жыл бұрын
For these Escapes, it's the gold (yellow) coolant. But, if someone has put green in it before you, either refill with green...or flush it all out and replace with yellow. It's not a good idea to mix different types of coolant. I've seen cars where people have mixed them, and over time it looks like someone put mud in the radiator. Thanks for watching, Linda!
@boomerguy99356 ай бұрын
If you go to any coolant website and enter your specific vehicle, they will recommend what you need. Note that if you are not sure what is already in the system, do not just add any other type without research. Solids can accumulate and kill your cooling system and engine. My 2008 Escape takes HOAT specific coolant which comes in several colors from different manufacturers. You should drain/refill at least every 30K miles to turn over enough coolant to prevent it from becoming acidic. This won't replace all of the coolant like a professional flush, but it will keep your system running for a very long time. When your water pump starts leaking from old age, go ahead and replace the thermostat at the same time because the coolant will have to be drained for either job.
