A test where the centerline of the Odyssey was aligned to the Focus's centerline. A full-overlap crash test to assess vehicle incompatibility. This crash test was performed at TRC (Transportation Research Center), in East Liberty, Ohio on 03/10/2006.
Odyssey was traveling at 48.8 Km/h (30.3 Mph) and the Focus at 71.8 Km/h (44.6 Mph). NHTSA reported a closing speed of 120.00 Km/h.
The weight of the Odyssey was 2273kg (5011lbs), the weight of the Focus was 1553kg (3423lbs). (Over 1500 lbs difference in weight)

I was working at a location back then where our break area was right next to a Ford dealer. Heard a salesman telling a customer that the Focus was a "top of the line car". I laughed so loud I KNEW they heard me!! I call it the Ford Fucus.

In the odyssey weight correct at 5k lbs? It seems very high. Anyway, it’s crazy how it pushed the focus backwards.

The seats are real heavy. RE: focus bounce. It this was of 2 same vehicles, it would have been same as 1 vehicle against brick wall. Essentially the foward energy stops at impact. With discordant mass (5k# vs 3k#) the larger car/van pushes thru leaving the occupants in smaller car to be pressed towards dash instead of seat back, as the car's momentum is reversed after crumple zone is depleted. Another way to Focus on this is ... mass kicks azz. It's also funny how many whiners chime in about bloated weight of EVs. It would be interesting to see the Ford replaced with a 5,000 pound EV.

www.nhtsa.gov/research-data/research-testing-databases#/vehicle/5684 The weight of 2273kg is repeated multiple times in the test report, it seems like NHTSA was trying to get the target test weight to be about similar across all the bullet vehicles used in this series.

I’ve always been curious, why are the seats moved all the way up for the test? It seems like the airbags would be able to work better if the dummies weren’t so close to them.

The safety systems should be able to protect you in all possible seating positions so if you can sit that close, they test it that close. That's part of the reason why other agencies like iihs use smaller female dummies.

It feels and looks like Ford has often made their cars mediocre at best. Compared to some competitors. Seems that there has been no ambition or extra financial investment in features or security. At most, improvements have only been made out of necessity and after bad results. I myself drive a Ford van that is 7 years old and has driven just under 200,000 km, which has still worked well and is ok to drive. But a certain feeling of cheap quality with many parts, comes with mileage.

Yeah, seems the norm. I felt myb'08 E350 was cheaply done compared to my '99 E320. But now I've rented a GMC HD2500 that cost $7k more than the 08 Benz did new. When I vacuumed the carpets I realized the quality was less than used by Japanese imports in the 1970s. Odysseus ... I like the way the feel, handle and ride... looking for a hardware store vehicle (man version of grocery getter) and it just may fit the bill with more versatility than a worn out p/u truck

I noticed a bunch of the Odyssey's paint flaked off of the hood, which is par for the course for that awful Honda white paint. Of course, I'd rather have flaky white paint and injury measurements well below limits than better paint with deadly measurements.
