2003 Honda Odyssey Passenger Door Window Regulator Replacement

Once again, it's time to work on the 2003 Honda Odyssey. This time, the passenger window decided to give it up after 9 years.
In this video, I'd like to show you how to remove and replace it within 25 minutes. Times will vary, of course, but how else do we learn.... well, there is KZbin. ;)
You'll need the following:
Phillips Screwdriver
10mm wrench or socket
Something small, thin and flat to pry with
Replacement part
and a little patience...

The passenger side window on my 2004 Odyssey failed. This video was an excellent resource to help me replace the actuator and motor assembly. Some key tips in the comments section that helped; tape the window (duct tape) in the fully closed position, and don't remove the speaker. You may need to remove the 2 bolts connecting the window to the actuator arm in order to tape the window closed. While you do not need to remove the speaker, there are 3 screws under the speaker cover that you DO need to remove in order to take the panel off. Once you get the panel off you are left holding the panel in one hand and trying to disconnect the speaker power connector with the other. It wouldn't hurt to have a 2nd set of hands at that point or something to balance the panel on to avoid letting the weight of the panel fall on the rather thin speaker wires. I found the hardest aspect of the job was getting the panel back on! Fitting it in at the top while accommodating the door lock at the same time was tricky, but patience prevailed. Jason Shrout It sure did....two things I had to do different were...the black sticky, whatever, that held the plastic sheet on, work too well. So I replaced it with a pease cut from a bag you would put over a pallet, then shrink it with a propane torch ever heavier duty....it was handy..:) 3M two sided tape worked very well to hold it on. The other was, I had to remove that corner peace, small black triangle. It's just held on with two clips that are brittle so it should be removed after the door panel, so you can pry it straight out, side to side. I broke the bottom clip but the door panel & top clip hold it pretty tight....really thank you again......👍 Have a happy forth...!!!!!

Thanks for posting this detailed video. You saved me $250! It took me about 2 hours. I was also able to leave the window in and tape it up using painters tape while I installed the new assembly. I was not as lucky as you, my window was stuck in the full down position. By removing the 4 regulator bolts, I was able to get enough room to remove the 2 window bolts and push the glass up. Thanks for the video. My wife said the window went bang and fell down today. I was determined to avoid taking it to the dealer and spending $500... I did the replacement.The Plastic tabs of plate moving with glass broke & the strip was free so the glass stays down. Replaced the'Regulator'.Dorman $50. Repaired the old one , works fine , it probably broke as it was dry, no grease. Good job SGT, keep posting.

Thank you Jason. You saved me a few hundred bucks! I did the driver's side & my window was stuck in the UP position. This made it more difficult to remove the window bolts, but I was able to remove the left one, then pivot the metal regulator "arm", which lowered the window enough for me to see the other bolt. I then taped the window up rather than remove it. I also left the white barrier attached along the bottom of the door, folding it under the door and out of the way. Cost: $50 from Amazon.

Great help. For those embarking on this little project pay attention to which connectors you are re-connecting your switches to. I made the mistake of connecting the blue power connector to my power window switch and I short circuited the sucker. Just ordered a replacement from Ebay Motors for $19. At least it short circuited in the closed position.

Nice video. Thanks. I hate trying to figure out where all the tabs and such are and usually end up breaking one. :( Anyhow, here's a little tip that I used while working on my Impala. You don't have to take the window all the way out. Put a few (3 or more) long pieces of painters tape over the top of the door. Leave it hang loose. Disconnect the window and push it straight up. Press the tape against it and the window will stay up.

You don't HAVE to remove the speaker, the weatherstripping nor the window. Leave the window in the up position and hold it with masking tape, or a suction cup and hanger. The speaker can stay in the trim panel, just remove the wire when removing. My biggest problem was with the new part, the motor wire wasn't as long as what was removed. (couldn't reuse old one, just had to 'make it work. It's also a good idea to make sure ALL your pieces parts are back together BEFORE puttting back on the trim panel. NOTHING sucks as much as getting everything back together, then finding a plastic clip laying on the floormat. .

I really needed this so thank you. For future reference, the cameraperson shaking the camera constantly was intensely annoying. Perhaps you might invest in a camera stand or auto-stabilized camera ... or even a camera app for a phone that has stabilization included... because you're really good at this kind of video. If the video were of higher quality and stabilized, it would not have been headache-inducing. Still... I got the information I needed.

thanks for the video it helped me not mess anything up. I did find out a couple things you can tape the window in the up position and dont have to remove it, Also you dont have to remove the speaker just unplug it after you pull the door cover off,I also did not remove the plastic sheet from around the speakerI bunched it together and pushed inside the speaker hole. BTW, better to not take the window out. You'll risk scratching tint or breaking it. Just push window all the way to the top in closed position and use black tape to hold it up there. Put the tape about midway up the window on outside to the top all the way around the top window frame and back down again on other side, inside of widow. Two or three strips like that holds the window in place real nice while you install the regulator. Again, great vid!

wasn't sure if tape would hold. i pulled the glass all the way up, used a few pieces of stiff styrofoam vertically and wedged it in between the horizontal pole in the middle of the door and bottom of the window and it held up pretty nicely. also used tape just in case

When I first connected the window control I was able to raise the window but not lower it. After fully reassembled I can operate only from drivers side. Any clue what happened? is there some child safety lock or did control go bad?

I'm in Canada and it's winter, so all the plastic needed some extra attention. How long will it take for my wife's hearing to return ? Did I mention I'm in Canada and it's winter. Of course the regulator decided to let go when we were 150 miles away from home. Is there any other time for a part to fail ? :)
