Video was good help, but just another tip is to take the Air Filter Housing out. It cut my time in half, and was much easier. And do it from the top, not the under side, after taking this off.

You went from the top down instead of what he shows here... Tqh parts showed the same procedure

NOOO... that's one I'm not willing to do on my KJ. I believe that accessing the fuel filter on a Jeep Liberty requires going in through the floorboard in the cargo area and heating up a glued-in plate and prying it up out of the way to get access to the filter...YUK! That is WAY too much work for a shade-tree guy like me. Frankly, if I ever wanted to try it, I think I'd rather just drop the gas tank and work on it that way. But thanks for the nice comments.

Zipper, thanks for the suggestion! The value of using a (decent) code reader is that in addition to the code, it ALSO suggests the parts you should replace to resolve each code, starting with the most-likely culprit and working its way down the list. But that was good feedback.

If you do replace the fuel filter, get the part from the dealer. The cheap auto store filter will end up leaking gas and you will have to change it again soon. The hardest part of the job is getting at the bolt that holds the filter on. You do have to drill out rivets and use a heat gun to open the access port though.

I notice that there was some oil on the sensor. Which makes sense. Does oil drain when the sensor is out? Would it require an oil change/adding oil back in? Thanks!
@DeathScouter12 жыл бұрын
OK, I checked out the manual and the fuel filter on the Liberty is an "extended life" component from the factory. It is NOT recommended that you replace the filter unless it generates an error code indicating that it needs to be changed or a code indicating extreme corrosion in the gas tank.

Having issues with my 2003 Jeep Liberty. Shooting me a misfire code in Cylinder #1, as well as an 02 sensor in bank 2 downstream code. Replaced my 02 sensor as well as the sparkplug and coil on cylinder #1, however NO luck.
@DeathScouter6 жыл бұрын
Troubleshooting O2 sensor codes STARTS with replacing the O2 sensors but may be other things from the wiring harness to catalytic converter. One thing I have read about for Jeeps (I have 4) is that "cheap" 02 sensors could still throw a "false positive' code. Genuine Mopar and NGK seem to be 2 brands that everyone has success with. I've read some of the Jeep Forum posts that manufacturers like Bosch (a reputable brand name) seem to have issues with Mopar computers. Soooooo... I'm not really sure what is broken on your Libby. I fully expected a misfire to be fixed with a coil pack change. Did you pull your spark plugs? You may need to change the plug(s) as well.

ok I have replaced mine before and went to the store and told themmake modle all that got the straight looking sensor you have there same as the one in my jeep....go back needing another one a year later and the only have L looking ones that are shorter in length measuring from were it bolts in and the plug is a little more squared went to 9 stores yesterday all the same and look at nearly ever make and model of car for one cant find the one you show here again? 2003 jeep liberty limited 3.7

Good video but an easier way the access the camshaft sensor is to take out the air filter box and the sensor can be accessed from the top instead of from underneath

Hi I have a 2002 jeep liberty limited and have had several issues for the last year I am guessing someone did not take care of it. when we bought it we had to get a new a/c compressor and condenser replaced the spark plugs and coils as well because the guy said he thought they were the original in it also had the transmission flushed at this time. Then the battery went bad so we bought a new one of those. Then out of nowhere the thing started screaming error codes all over the board. First the throttle position sensor replaced that it went off. evap code leaks turns out our gas cap had a issue replaced it problem solved. Then Cam and Crank position sensors came up along with 2 bank 1 o/2 sensors replaced all the sensors. 0/2 sensor error code never shut off even after taking it to jeep they said it was the sensor again not to worry about it. Then the water pump went out we replaced it and then finally the alternator was not chargeing properly so that is new the 0/2 code is still on there and the cam is on again, so I take it into a muffler shop thinking the cats are bad and sure enough the cats are in horrible shape 10lbs back pressure on the left side cat and 5lbs back pressure on the right side. I know it may be why the o/2 sensor is screaming bloody murder but I am woundering why the cam sensor would be going off again could it have caused a serious issue with all the back pressure? $700.00 to go on the cats and let's hope not a ton more for whatever else. o ya compression on all cylinders is above 120.

+Sarah perry WOW, you got all my repairs at once (trying not to laugh). I love Jeeps, but i don't think anyone will ever accuse them of being "too reliable", but the good news is that they are easy to work on so you can save some $$ doing most of the work yourself. If your KJ is actually running... measure your MPG before you change out your cats and 02 sensors (yes, replace the sensors at the same time as the cats!). I replaced my cats and O2 sensors and saw a 5-7 MPG increase in fuel economy. The cam and crank sensors are on the same circuit, so a bad one may be causing the other to report error codes. They're about $35 each so you may just want to swap them (cam shaft sensor is easier) if you haven't already done so.

I have a 2.4L engine into a jeep patriot LE 2008 and there is no compression what do that mean??
@DeathScouter9 жыл бұрын
+Stew Higdon No compression?? You mean in 1 particular cylinder? If so, I can only imagine a few things that would cause that. 1. Spark plug is unscrewed or blew out. 2. You have a valve stuck open. 3. Maybe a crack in the head? 4. MAYBE your timing chain broke and the valves aren't opening/closing? Very hard to fix without knowing more or seeing it.

No offense, I understand most don't know about it...but you waste ur time driving to the store to get a code read on ur car. Just turn the key to the acc position 3 times and on the third time it will give u all codes.

I have not. When the crankshaft & camshaft sensors start to fail, the car just dies without warning. What other symptoms are you having? Are you getting any OBDC codes?

Looks like it would be easier to pull the air box

should I replace that along with the alternator, it throwing codes p1682, and p1491
@DeathScouter7 жыл бұрын
The 1682 code would make me think Alternator or loose belt, but as far as I know, the 1491 is the radiator fan relay and not related to the alternator.

I agree and apologize. The little Flip Cam I use has a LCD window that is smaller than a postage stamp. It's nearly impossible to see what I'm working on AND aim the camera straight at the same time. Unfortunately, the Flip Cam includes software for editing multiple clips together, so I'm kind of stuck using it for these videos. I have tried to be more stable in my other videos.
