Mens 100m Quarter-Final - August 24, 2003
Some of the most drama seen on the track since 1996 with Linford Christie in the 100m Atlanta Olympic Final.
The "new" False Start rule sees the likes of Asafa Powell DQ'd. Jon Drummond, claims he did not move and would not leave the track after also being called for a false start. The crowd in Paris would then not let the athlets line up to race! Also an interview with Nicolas Macrozonaris post-race.

Nic with a great, intelligent response to reporter’s questions. It’s too bad he wasn’t able to go under 10 seconds, but he was lighting fast regardless

i was there this day , didn't get ticket for the final , but it's fine because history remembered more the john drummond "i did not move" stuff than the victory of kim collins 😅

Maybe for you For St.Kitts and Nevis, that was History, Kim collins has a Highway and a Stadium named after him? Does drummond have that?

One false start is BS!! They should be given a second chance!! What a Mess! Officials should just let Athletes run! Lynford Christie only did 1 false start 1996! Going on the B in bang is not a false start! It’s really crazy! Twitching is also not a false start! 1 false start disqualification is terrible!!

the false start rule at the time was one fs charged to the field, and then the second false start (even if you didn’t commit the first one) is dq. someone false started before him but didn’t get dq, so drummond was the second false start. i think the 2003-2009 rule is fair. the current rule since 2010 is any false start results in a dq is too strict, so they should revert back to the 2003-2009 rule. however, what makes jon drummonds false start controversial is what we’ve saw last year at the 2022 world championships. it is appearing that athletes are reacting faster than 0.100 seconds, a few athletes recorded reaction times as fast as 0.080 and claim they didn’t jump the gun. in my opinion, the 2003 false start rule is more than fair, but the 0.100 second rule is not, bc it came from a study i think in the 1960s or something. they should do a new study to figure out what should be considered a false start, which i believe it to be around 0.08 seconds

Patrick Johnson badly affected by Drummond's antics. What a shame because he ran 9.93 in the months leading up to this event. That is still an Australian record for nearly 20 years!

Does the French crown not understand what it means to be quiet at the start? This has to be the worst case I've ever seen.

totally it was a different time then, sprinters now just have to deal with it. reminds me of the drunk idiot who threw a bottle on the track during the 2012 london olympics 100m final. no one false started and the race continued.

Runners need to hear the starter clearly. You could be inventing a situation that would produce another false start.
