I will comment like so many previously have. This Adagio FD and their Riverdance FD are total and complete masterpieces. This particular FD is inspiring because they didn't skate cautiously. @@MsRumex Ok. They didn't abide by what traditionally was accepted by judges in terms of performance, style, etc. IE. The theatrics and dramatics that many European teams adopted. Less elite competition? That is a very subjective comment. Yeah Virtue & Moir face a not so great field. However remember Bourne & Kraatz did not win their World silver and World gold until virtually everyone had retired and the new contenders werent ready yet. When teams like Gritschuk & Platov, Krylova & Ovsiannikov, Anissina & Peizerat, and the Italians were still around the best they ever did was 3rd at Worlds and 4th at the Olympics.

Shae-Lynn is great, but boy, VICTOR KRAATZ is absolute perfection when he skates. He actually, believe or not, is the better skater. In fact, he is undoubtedly one of the BEST (ice dance) skaters I have ever seen. He has this flawlessness and effortlessness about his skating. I'm really curious to know who he was coached by during his formative years as a skater. Reminds me of the effortlessness of a G+G, Kwan... I sympathise for Shae-Lynn who married her coach, Nikolai MOROZOV, who would later train MIKI ANDO with whom he had a scandalous affair. In fact, I suspect that he is the father of Miki Ando's baby, although she has not confirmed the identity of her child's father. I hope she is now happy with Javier Fernandez. But as with Morozov, what a tool !

@russianskatingfan I think you made my point for me. Virtue and Moir are the first dancing couple to win Olympic gold on their first try (not even Torvill and Dean did that). They were successful because unlike Bourne and Kraatz they didn't have the Italians, Russians and French (all world champions, BTW) to contend with. If they did, they would have taken as much time as Bourne & Kraatz did to win a major title.

L&A (& ALL of B&K's competitors) knew how good they were. Those competitors knew they were being aided by the judges, they'd have 2 b blind not 2 know. But of course why would they complain. I think with all the freebies, everyone started 2 believe they were better. Look at the Italians (name?)...if the guy was penalized for average skating skills he probably would've worked on it. But they were always rewarded with great marks, so why would he bother. "Skating skills, schmating skills" I guess.

They were robbed of the medals but in turn they changed the sport forever and changed the way judging is done along with Sale and Pelletier.

+33cows True! People have really lost the will to care. Some people are blaming it on the flamboyancy of some of the gay male skaters but I really don't think that's it. I mean Rudy Galindo was open and flamboyant and he was adored by so many people. I really don't think that's it. It's the way the judging is done. And if Sale and Pelletier hadn't thrown hissy fits about rightfully winning silver than this would still be so...grrr. sorry off on a rant.

They actually did break through, & were ahead of a lot of those dance couples in the very beginning (like Anissina & Peizerat). Then B&K sort've hit a plateau, allowing those same couples - whom they'd ranked higher than - to pass them. And by then it was "too late" for B&K...the other couples became favoured by the judges. It's a shame because many of the couples had relied on theatrics, and lesser skating skills. But again, admittedly & unfortunately, it all began when B&K hit a plateau.

It seams to me, that once they jumped on the podium, they just decided to wait their turns to get gold instead of actually doing something and pushing for it (however it may have been also a fault of the Dubova). In meantime the others did actually get better.

@tinymavy Yes, and unlike some, I wouldn't consider it a bad thing. It was like the sprinkles on the icing. They weren't conforming; they were proving themselves capable and this is what made them stand out. They won a well deserved title. Yes Virtue & Moir came into Vancouver with the past 2 World Champions both coming from huge injuries (the top Russian and French teams of the time) and the World Champions the 2 years before that retired and out of a potential comeback to his DUI. Yes Virtue & Moir had it alot easier than Bourne & Kraatz in alot of ways: 1. WAY tougher competition in this era from the ex Soviet, Russian, and Eastern European teams who these days suck pretty much, making it very easy for the NA teams. 2. Judges not nearly as open as NA teams on top, these days they are almost too open to it. 3. The juding system favoring the NA style of dance (athleticsm, skating quality) vs the European style (overall impression) more now. and other things.
